Got in a car accident- you ain't gonna believe this....
i got into a fender-bender accident tonight.... here's the situation:
went to a high school musical to see my nephew who has one of the leadroles....anyway, after the musical I jump in my car and backup. With my car rolling like a 2mph I hit a woman's car parked behind me that was sitting in a FIRE LANE. My back windshield was fogged over and her car is BLACK in color and completely disappeared into the dark night.
I get out calmly...and she gets out with her hands shaking towards the sky yelling, "G.D. you! this car is only 1 month old."
I said, "Lady, you're parked in a FIRE LANE..." She then goes even more crazy by yelling at me, swearing like a sailor.
I get back in my car and pull back into the parking spot. I get out and start walking towards the high school again. She yells, "you're leaving the scene of an accident!!!"
I said, "No I'm going inside to call the police on my cellphone. you are scaring me by being sooooo crazy over a 2mph bump."
Police show-up and they pull me aside and asked what happened. I start telling my story and the woman then yells 30ft away a bunch of gibberish.
Policeman turn around and yells "Shut up!" while pointing his flashlight at her, ..........then turns back to talk to me again.
He basically said that it was my fault backing into her even though she is parked in a Fire Lane.... but since its on private property it wont get report to the State and no citation to me.
He goes on to say he thinks the woman is crazy and thought I was smart to go wait inside.
He looks at her car and its just some surface scratches. Police guy told me to try and call her husband tomorrow to see if I could just pay off an autobody place to buff it out and not claim it on insurance.
Once I was free to go I had to backup again.... she was soooo close to my car I had to literally open my car door and physically look out my car door to make the turn....it was very very tight.
Well. I'm calling my insurance guy in the morning to see what my options are. I think I'm screwed and "at-fault" for backing into her but will ask my insurance guy if anything can be done since she was in a fire lane and was sooo close and tight to my car.
oh, by the way, the musical SUCKED.

That stinks!!! I had somone back into me in a parking lot just the other day,.... The insurance got it sorted out for me though.
I'm going to move this to the M'ville fourm,.. that's the best place for Off topic threads.
Thanks!

yeah if its a small scuff you dont want that in you driving record just settle it out of pocket tell her to take it to a body shop get you an estimate and then pay her that amount and get a paper saying that she can not claim anything else and you are giving her such aomunt of $$$$ and she cannot claim anything else and save that paper. That way she cant come back and sue you in small claim court

I felt like such a doofus, but call your agent to let him know,
don't file a claim unless you have too

Sorry about your night! This type of accident happens all the time!
Laws vary from state to state but the basics are the same. Realistically you are at fault for the crash, but she also shares part of the burden due to her being improperly parked. But the first incident of the crash was due to you backing out.
Is Ohio a no-fault state?

I would have her get a quote first then decide if you want to pay that bill or go through your Insurance Co.
