getting my new pet today
My wife called me at work yesterday and told me she is buying me the bird I've wanted for as long as I can remember. An African Gray Congo. We are taking a couple hour road trip this afternoon to pick one of them from a breeder. They are ~4 months old and starting to talk already. We've had a talking yellow-crowned Amazon for a little over 2 years now (he's 20 years old now) but this will be the "icing on the cake" for my parrot collection. (gonna stop at 2...or 3....or well anyway). I took a pic of my Amazon just now if anyone wants to see him. His name is Chico. (named by the lady that bought him as a baby kept him for 18 years and then gave him to me)

LOL you need to ask one of the old timers about "Chico and The Man"...
It was a TV show in the 70's

Oh about the time I was born huh. (:
Just got back from getting the bird. He was born on Feb 25th this year so he'll be 5 months old in a few days. He's really nice and molting right now so he has some kinda wild looking feathers at the moment. haven't thought of an appropriate name just yet. I'll try to post pics later tonight.

Ok here are both of the birds. The Amazon doesn't seem to mind the African at all. He even lets me hold both at the same time. My wife wants to name the African a girls name since a blood test is needed to determine the sex and we really don't care enought to have it done. And we already have a male bird for sure. We've been trying on a lot of names and she thinks she wants to call it Coral. Why I don't know, we already have plenty of coral in the house. If y'all can come up with another better name before we start calling her Coral let me know. Oh yeah heres a pic of both of them outside a few minutes ago. Don't mind the goofy guy in the pic with the birds. I wanted them close together for a pic but didn't want the Amazon to take the Africans head off or something.

Wow those birds are awesome.
Chico was played by Freddy Prinze Sr. who has passed. Freddy Prinze Jr. got to marry Buffy who is the second hottest girl on the planet next to Mrs. Phishnoob.

Very nice, Joel!
I got my "first" two birds 3 months ago, 2 Blue-Crowned Conures. I just love them. I think for us they are the "perfect" birds... they live at the shop (where I spend the vast majority of my time) and they flirt with customers
They are definitely an addiction...
Glad that the Amazon accepts the Grey... I've heard that sometimes a bird can get a bit possessive of its human. I would imagine that Chico may be glad of some avian company. Should be great fun to see their "friendship" develop.
Thanks for sharing - they are both beauties
Jenn

Very cool, Joel! I love amazons and greys. Greys make the nicest natural sounds. And amazons are such characters! I just lost my blue headed pionus. Sweet bird. I'll miss him a lot.
Jenn, I want to visit your shop some time.

The wife has decided the African's name is Lelu pronounced lee loo. I'm not so sure about it but I guess I can compromise a little and let her name my bird. I think I need to buy her (wink) a 300 gal. tank now, since she is complaining that the tank looks too cramped and has too much rock. Wouldn't she be surprised? (:
