Get the 90. I am not a big fan of Rio's because of a personal experience with them cleaning out the old AZ stores. Everyone I touched shocked the living crap out of me.
I say the 90 because the flow rates on the page I looked them up says the Rio-50 is at 69gph and the Rio-90 is at 85gph. Higher flow rate will translate to more suction power. And, when you put it in a sock, you are going to lose some flow rate from the PH because of the back pressure that the sock is going to put on it.
At marinedepot.com, the Rio-90 is only a dollar more than the Rio-50.

After leaving Rob's, I came back home and checked the salinity of my water. The IO hydrometer said it was 1.025 but I have read that the IO's are notoriously low. The one I have came in the kit I bought.

my hydrometers were off.. the one i gave my brother reads 0.001 higher that it is .. it reads 1.025 its actually 1.024 .. the one i use is 0.004 off.. if its reading 1.024 its actually 1.028..
if you know anyone with a refractometer see if they will check your hydrometer. i still need to get me one but i am hoping to be able to get one with my tax return

???????? I thought you put a whole lot of sand in there? Why for you taking in out? other than the blowing... or is it just the blowing?

I don't live 3 miles from him so going back to Rob's isn't a problem. I think I am going to go now and have him check it just so I know how far off mine is. At least give me a baseline in-accuracy to get it close.

That goes to prove what we were talking about in the parking lot about different people having different experiences with things. My skimmer for my 90 has a Rio pump on it, we will see how it does when I use it. The incident with the Rio's at AZ, in part, was because of 10 kazillion gallons of SW everywhere and me standing in it

I had Josh test it with his, he said it was 1.017 and mine said 1.024-1.025 but I don't know how accurate his is or when it was last calibrated.
I think I am going to take a water sample and my hydrometer to Rob's and let him check it for me if I can get there before he closes.
