For the parents of new little babes...
Tonight I listened to a recording made by Jerry Garcia and David Grisman called "Not for Kids Only". It has songs like Freight Train, Arkansas Traveler, and the all time kid's fave Teddy Bear's Picnic. I thought, what a neat little collection of songs for little kids ( or younger or older ones like me). Comfort music, so to speak.
So I was wondering...we have several new parents here on TRT...what music do you play for your little ones? And to those of you whose kids are too old for "baby stuff" what did you play for them when they were younger?
It might be nice to have a list of music for the new parents on board.
Jerry Garcia signing kid songs! Way

Raffi - The kids loved his songs, and so do most adults.
Troy could sing every word to Joshua Giraffe when he was very young...and Trevor went to sleep to Baby Beluga every night.

good timing...
My baby boy is due any day now and we have a couple of CD's for him, mostly traditional lullabys, etc... old-fashioned music from our childhood (60's) and our parents childhood (40's). the wife manages the music collections quite closely at this point due to intense nesting instincts, but I think I'll have some input as time goes on.
Thanks for the tip on Jerry Garcia.... it's a "gotta have".
I think music is critical for the development of so many parts of the brain in young humans. my dog and cat seem to like it too.
thanks and still tankless,
mike

cath how weird, i just finished making a really cool mix-tape for my girls...and i think i'll make one for my boy too..
i put alot of "traditional" kids songs, but i threw in "sugar sugar" by the archies, "you must have been a beautiful baby" by perry como, "jeepers creepers" by billie holiday, and lots of other little treasures....

maybe thats why she won't sleep
she does about six hours total every day. occasionally she'll do eight.
thank goodness mom doesn't work every day.
what we found that calmed her anyway were some "hallmark" brand cds that were a compilation of harp melodies.
doesn't always work on her, but i get sleepy thinking about it.

Just picked up a great one by They Might Be Giants called "NO" Fun album for kids and adults. My little one also love the latest Jimmy Buffett, "Far Side Of The World"

When Ricky was a baby we had one of those springy jumpy seats that you attach to the inside of a door casing. We played "Born To Be Wild" by Steppenwolf and he would go crazy jumping up and down and laughing...but only for that song.
