Greetings, evening crowd! I went to a buddy's place to help with a sprinkler system installation. We had a trencher, but the ground was too wet, so I dug a number of hundred feet of trenches by hand. I'm sore.

their fence? no, it is mostly rotten and it is leaning on two apple trees (that are now mine) that i think i can salvage. i thought the trees were only within a foot or two inside of our property line, but since the survey, i now know that they are about 6 feet in. which means i won't have to move them very far. the fence is about 10' high and has a number of boards missing, broken and rotting away.
by law, i can only put up a 6' fence, so that will be happening when the ground thaws and after we give the 30 day notice requesting they remove the fence from what is now known to be our property.
we will try to be civil, but these people have been flipping us off in public whenever we cross paths since we bought the property.
it is quite sad, really.
so i really can't wait for the ground to thaw so we can put up the fence so they can't look into my kitchen windows anymore!

Good Sunday morning
Coffee, hot tea, cocoa, wild cherry and cinnamon scones, oranges, nanners, and kiwi for breakfast.
We haven't heard from Doug in a while. Extra prayers for Dyan and him.
See you all at lunch time.

Heather, it's a criminal offense in many places to remove survey markers. You've got some bad neighbors there, and I wouldn't depend on them to remove the offensive fence with the attitude they've shown. It'll be a good day when you get the new one installed as "A good fence makes good neighbors". I could write a book about boundary line disputes, having been involved in many, many of them. The problem always is that regardless of the outcome, the protagonists are still neighbors. Hope yours turns out good in the long run.

we had had a nieghborhood "we hate winter" party
it was nice to meet a bunch of the folks that live around here
I can say that would never happen at my old place
that fence dispute sounds ugly Heather, it's kinda funny how some people fight over inches of land

Morning everyone. They have a couple of computers at the business center in the hotel and it is still way early here.
Lots of snow outside though...hopefully conditions will be nice today and the wind won't come up too much.
Hope you all are having a great weekend.

yeah, they are pretty unpleasant... by law i guess we have to sent them a written notice about the fence, then wait 30 days. after that we can remove it and we can actually bill them for removal/disposal fees. i doubt we'll bother. we are trying to be civil. the reason we spent $3500 on surveying was to make sure that we weren't the ones encroaching and to assure all things were legally squared away. Funny thing is that our other neighbors, part of our fence is on their land and part of their garden is on ours- but that is the civil side of the land and i don't see anything becoming a problem in getting those issues tidied up.
from what i can piece together, the nasty neighbors are so mad at us because the son of the land owner had promised them the land (and they are on state aid so i guess they were going to get the state to buy it for them somehow- i don't know), when his mom refused (she wasn't about to give it away after her son freeloaded the house then burned it down with a kerosun heater) and quietly sold it to us, they found out and were enraged. they were trouble before, but now it has reached another level. they have been throwing litter onto it since then.
So, on the day we go to remove the fence (after satisfying legal notice obligations) we will notify the police and gather a few friends and go clean up and install a sturdy barricade fence... then we can fix up the rest of the lot.
they can be mad all they want... if they do any vandalism the police will be called. i'm not dealing with them on their level. it is that "never wrestle with a pig" thing...
once that is cleared away and no problems i hope, i can't wait to get a garden planted!

So, this is a vacant lot after the house burned? The son and neighbors sound like a bunch of meth-heads.

A good plan, Heather. They should back off when they see you mean business, especially when you keep the police on your side.

There is snow on the ground and that makes me sad, I had to pull out all the winter stuff to walk the dog.
Erin proclaimed it was a miracle this morning - I told her no, it's just Illinois.

There is snow on the ground here too...of course we drove to 9500 feet up in the Rockies.
At home it is already brown again after our puny blizzard.
Well got Cynthia a breakfast coffee with a wee nip of Bailey's and raspberry hot chocolate mix...now maybe that will entice her to get up and put her ski togs on.

yes, it was the house between us and them. our lots are so narrow it was a miracle of sorts that only one house burned. i was also lucky my hubby was home that day. i was still recovering from my car accident and still using a walker, plus it was icy outside... it took hubby and a police officer to get me to a safe area.
and yes, there are meth heads among them... and of course alcoholics

hopefully, at least i have no plans to antagonize. but i think our existence makes them mad. they told us something about how they hate the day we moved into the neighborhood. funny thing is that all the sober neighbors like us and compliment me on my flower gardens and love the upgrades we have done on the place. we are the first house on a 3 road intersect, so a lot of people see our yard out their front windows, we have been told over and over how relieved everyone is that they are grateful for the view of a clean yard!
