Fire season in Colorado
Well I guess summer is here. Lighting caused numerous fires the other night and they are going strong. Although none are super close, this one is less than a mile from where my kids go to day care...
Hope they can get this one mopped up, but low humidity and high temps are slated for the rest of the week, not making for good fire fighting weather

Any with all the rain we got early in the season, the grasses grew pretty high so when they dry out they will be a huge fie hazards.... I see problems come the 4th of July unless we get more rain......

Yeah, this one is just west of where the Coal Seam Fire was the other year. This area has been in drought for some time. the only thing the moisture did was add more fuel that dried out! I agree, it's going to be an interesting year for the state!

Thanks! We'll be fine, I can't afford the half-mil plus to live in the open like that I'm stuck in a neighborhood... But my kids go to a mountain school a little less (I'm guessing) that a mile from this one. If it gets too much closer They will shut the school down.
It's such a great school/daycare where they tend to horses, chickens and other farm animals and spend time actually learning during the summer, rather than watching tv So I'm hoping that the school and the other homes in the area make it out!
Normally they would have the resources to squash this one, but the storm caused three big fires and quite a few small ones at the same time so it spread the resources pretty quick...

Ouch on the fires. I wish I could get the pics off old puter HD, My son used to be an LT in the local Fire Dept and they were part of InterTeam setup to provide support for wild fire crews. Someone had sent me pics of him and his crew after they called the bomber in on their position when the wind shifted and caught them in a bad spot

This fire has absolutely grown this afternoon. I had to go grab my kids as they are landing the helos in the field where the day care/school is. I don't have a good feeling about this fire... At the rate it's moving and the weather... Sheesh.

Things went well today. They had some great success with back fires today. As long as the wind cooperates over the next few days everything should be OK, but the next four days are looking like windy afternoons, high temps and low humidity.
Thanks for the thoughts! So far, no homes or structures lost, but one fireman had an accident with a chainsaw and cut his thumb off. Not sure if there was enough left to reattach it. I should know in a few days.

When my son was on the FD and had to go out on the interagency agreement Wild Fire Teams my wife never slept till he was back home. After a while none of the other ladies were allowed to tell her ANYTHING about what went on out on the fire line.
Hopefully it gets better for you out there, we have high winds here so maybe we can steal some of the wind from you guys

Kind of crazy Hope your wife has got some sleep since then... It's another tough job. they are always in our hearts after we lost 11 of them in the stormking fire in 94. This fire is about 2 miles west of that fire...
