F.W. Tank Pics and Info.
I know, I know, this is a salt water crew. But I know there is some other FW junkies out there as well. If you'd like to share your pics or tank info I'd love to see/read about it. This tank is a 49gal long, been up for about 2.5 years. 96 watts JBJ compact lighting, 8 watt UV sterilier, Aqua clear media filter, small air pump (on a timer, only comes on when lights are off). I use liquid C02 once a week, thinking about a "carbo plus" but reef stuff comes first
Fish: pair of angels, 3 flying foxes, 2 gold banded loaches, 6 ottos, proxy rainbow, 3 neon tetras, and one red guy (not sure name). All have been around for over 2 years.
Plants: Various tropical swords, tropical sunsets, high grow, java ferns, java moss, and hair grass.
Tank is virtually maintenece free, clean the glass once a month, change the media once a month, small water change once a month, prune the garden when needed (which is often). Easy peesy!!! Share along if you like.

Hey Nick,
A good portion of us started out with FW tanks years ago.
It all started for me when I received my first fish tank as a Christmas gift back in the mid-seveties. It was a five gallon FW tank with one of those corner bubble filters.
Anyway, I sometimes think about setting up a FW tank but I just don't have the room now. It's tempting though with the relatively low start-up and maintenance costs. Plus, planted tanks like yours, can rival reefs depending on how nuts you want to get about them...
Nice tank, btw.

Hi Nick! Here is a picture of my 60 gallon freshwater tank. I have one leptobarbus hoevenii (red finned cigar shark), six barbodes schwanenfeldi (tinfoil barbs) and one hypostomus plecostomus(pleco)

Peter, thats how I got my start. I used to keep oscars and brakish water scats. That was a long time ago, when I got back into it, planted tanks looked really fun, so I tried my hand at that. After being at the lfs so much, how could one resist the reef tank. That is now the number one passion. My lady has taken over the planted tank. The pic there is very pruned down, the plants grow very fast, it's a jungle in there. I've seen some dutch websites with some amazing planted tanks.
V, that is a beautiful tank, good work! I knew someone had a sweet fw out there!

Here is a pic of my 90 gallon FW tank that I MIGHT be turning into a FOTWLR. It includes assorted live plants, a couple snails, new guinea red rainbow fish, 4 neon rosy barbs, 2 golden gourami's, powder blue, 2 pleco's, and a reed fish (basicly looks like a green snake, REALLY COOL FISH).
