Eureka, baby... (aka one down, one to go)
On Bob's (RWD's) advice, I headed over to
Mt. Greenwood Hardware,
on 111th and Troy (next street east of Kedzie),
here in Chicagoland
This old-style hardware store (in all likelihood family owned) is a true gem, surviving despite a True Value sitting practically across the street from it, and chock full of quality, durable tools and materials.
Got my longnose pliers at last:
CHANNELLOCK
Made in the United States of America
since 1886
They feel good: proper curvature and length of the grips,
Remarkably good alignment and action.
They'll feel even better when I'm working with them back home
Thanks to everyone who helped me in trying to land these suckers, with time running out before the flight home
PS: Knowing of my aversion to US brands NOT manufactured in the US,
my wife made a quip about making very sure that the pliers weren't actually
"CHINALOCK" brand

Woo-haaaa, Scott.
Such a dainty blue, too
I'm on a flight back home this Friday morning.
Johnny, maybe next time I'm here, I'll just kidnap you for a couple of hours
(And Scott, well, I'm gone to Carolina in my mind)

Horge, I hope you got a spare pair, if not post the part number so someone can get it for ya. Did you ever get the olives?

No, Doug
No fresh olives to be had here in Chicagoland until at least August.
Ah well...

Oh this is intolerable, someone in Cal must be able to get fresh olives and smuggle them into the PI
At least pack them in Xenia and shrooms(tank raised) so that customs will gloat over confiscating the foriegn stuff and send the olives on

Indeed.
But there's some good news now.
Not with olives though.
My wife treated me to lunch at HOOTERS on Cicero today.
The snow crab was pretty good, and the Spicy Wings were reliably familiar, over Corona.
This being our last day in Chicagoland... I decided to drive through the sidestreets for a change, and came up to some auto shops (one of them "Charlie's Auto", I believe), not a block away from where we ate.
Right outside was this humongous (I had no idea they were so big) truck, its white sides bearing the logo and brandname.
"Snap-On"
What could I do?
More longnose pliers at just $27 a pop!
Woohoooo!!!
First ChannelLock, and now (unexpectedly), Snap -On!!
At the rate things are falling into place, who knows?
Maybe tomorrow the skies'll rain fresh olives on the drive to the airport,
and I'll just roll down the window to catch some.
horge
PS: Again, thanks to everyone!

Hey Horge,
Sorry we never made it to "El gallo Tapatio" or something like that Pencil in that on your things-to-do next trip to Chicago. Have a safe trip home.
