Emergency dog issue..she is in the OR

I am hoping that one of you might know about this. Blitz the wonder dog somehow jumped up and got into Christy's birthday present from her work. Two pounds later the dog became 10% chocolate. Our carpets are covered in cow pies of who knows what and the vet stuck her straight in the ER doing a Laproscopy, stomach pump, IV and cramming her full of carbon.

Does anyone know about this at all. I heard chocolate is generally bad, but until this morning did not know it could be deadly.

Later this eve Mrs. Phishnoob and I will have a decision to make based on what the doctor says.

Best wishes to you and yours Perry, hope the vet can help your pup.
I looked up levels considered poisonous
White Chocolate-200oz per lb of dog
Milk Chocolate-1 oz per lb
Semi-sweet Cocoa-0.3 oz per lb
Baking Chocolate- 0.1 per lb
From what i know, and read, sounds like the vet is doing everything possible.
Hang in there, and good luck,,,
BTW: The poisonous component in chocolate is:Theobromine

And yes, Chocolate is dangerous to dogs if ingested

Oh, no!!! I hope Blitz pulls through! I'll keep prayers out for him. Thanks, Jeff, for the list of harmful chocolate for dogs.

Perry and Christy I hope your dog pulls through...

http://www.doggyvision.com/facts_tip...e_toxicity.htm

Chocolate is toxic/fatal to all animals in large enough doses and it's just as toxic to cats as dogs. Just depends on the animals ability to metabolize the Theobromine. In large enough quantities it is also toxic to humans but the chances of someone being able to eat enough at one time is highly unlikely (something like 20#). Chocolate also contains Caffeine which is another ingredient which contributes to the toxicity.

The phrase they use to remember the levels of toxicity is"
"White-Hot-Milk-Semi-Baked"

Perry, any news on the outcome?

Good news!!!!

Last night at 9:00 pm I picked her up and she pulled through. We have to take her back but they literally purged her then pumped her full of charcoal. Talk about detox!!!!

There is a girl at work that just got her business degree and thinks that she knows something about Operations now and rags on me every day. I snuck in early on Turkey Day to do a little and the dog left a little present under her desk. Guess Blitz is a keeper.

Thanks so much for all of your kind words!!!!
