Dyson Vacuum Question
Does anyone use the Dyson? Or the Dyson "The Ball" vacuum?
We need to replace our vacuum cleaner, and we are considering the DC15 Animal or DC17 Animal, but are concerned about managing "The Ball" swivel motion on the DC15.
However, the DC15 claims to have a larger intake suction for picking up "larger debris", and I'm thinking, feathers and newspaper scraps and such that our old vacuum had trouble with. The DC17 does not have this larger intake feature, but is the "old fashioned" non-swivel type.
Thanks in advance,
Shirley

We shopped them, ended up with an Oreck. It's much lighter, more effective, and came with a 21 year warranty. I bit more expensive, but I couldnt be more satisfied.

Is there an Oreck for animal dust/dander/feathers/hair?
Also, I like the idea of bagless -- I've had other bagless models, and the odor and dust isn't nearly as evident. OTOH, someone on a review said pretty much what you said, they got the Oreck. It's about $150+ more.

The bagless thing is great, assuming you empty it outside. Otherwise, it can be a big mess.
The Oreck is hepa sealed, and the bag actually seals itself as it's being taken out (it's a pretty crafty design), so it doesnt drop a mess when you empty it. They don't have one designed specifcally for animals, but I'm sure it would do the trick.

Thanks so much!
I can't find a youtube video of the ball in action... only the standard dysons... but I did read that the DC17 is "more aggressive" for cleaning carpet... which is VERY important...
I've never had a problem emptying the bagless bin... just dump it in the big bird-cage cleaning bin in the garage. No mess or dust.

make shure nothing blocking your hose or in the equipment(and they made that so easy to take off(no screwdrivers needed) and clean.

Thanks to everyone!
I found a $100 off coupon for Linens n Things online, and the local LnT store here had both models... so I got to try out "The Ball" on the DC15. It's a piece of cake to use, and there were things about it I liked, but I liked the DC17 better, plus it came with three additional attachments - the floor/carpet tool and the mini-turbo tool, along with another brush tool, plus the three that fit on the unit as standard equipment.
The store honored the Internet coupon!
Just vacuumed everything I vacuumed yesterday... I got one cup lightly packed fine dust and junk, 3.5 oz... (scales are always handy for weighing the birds/dragons)
So, I'm really happy with it...
As for losing suction... you can take all sorts of parts of the hose apart real easily and clean it out, plus with a 5-yr warranty, if it doesn't perform, it will be replaced/fixed.
My neighbor has had the "animal" model for quite awhile, and hasn't had any problems with hers.
Thanks again!

I have a Dyson, (non-ball type) and I LOVE it. It is always amazing to think I have a clean looking carpet, but then as I vacuum I see wifts of hair and such spinning around in the chamber.

I needed a vacuum and after reading in "a leading consumer magazine" that Dyson was midpack got a Eureka The Boss thing. It is put together well and cleans like no other for something like 149 bucks. The molding is pretty on a Dyson but I think you can do just as well for a quarter of the cash.
I have a Beemer but am probably adding a Kia Sorento to my stable next month as well. It is not about prestige but value for the dollar that matters to me.

We have a Eureka for the basement - does well. Had a Bissell bagless -- did well, and my neighbor's Dyson animal-17 way-outperformed her Hoover Windtunnel... and after seeing what it picked up the day after I vacuumed, I'm very satisfied with it. I read consumer reports, as well, same results you read... and then when you read how consumer reports arrives at their conclusions, the %-age polled, etc, it counts, but it's not all that counts. I consider it worth reviewing, but not the decision-maker. I've heard good things about the Oreck... but they are even more expensive and have the bag... I really hate the bag. Personal preference, perhaps.

The DC15 and 17 have stronger motors and more suction, from what I'm told and what I think I read.
