dvd computer question
Well this is just kicking my butt..
Both the DVD drive I installed and the camera hooked up through USB are not recognized with a CD-R disk in. The drive on My Computer shows as a DVD when I put the disk in, but it will not read. The drive in the computer with a CD works fine and the drivers that came with it should power anything video.
I researched and thought maybe I needed a decoder. Two attempts from two places resulted in partial downloads, and when I tried to redownload it said I tried 9 times out of 5 and was not allowed to do it again. This was with only one download attempt using Mozilla. Nothing else has failed to download and now I am out 30 bucks.
Any ideas...we are dying to download from our camera and get editing.

Oh My, good luck with that, Eryns ex got her a vid cam that uses the mini dvd, Wading thru the user manual was worse than flight manual for a Tomcat, Never did figure out how to DL and edit, I miss tape, it's a format even an old codger like me can master without askin a 7 yr old for help

Our computer guy is thinking it is not the decoder, but the way the camera is formatting the files. You are right about the manual. There is even a little joystick thing on the camera which toggles and pushes in to select things. I am mystified and Cynthia is miles ahead.
I'll wade through it or try to find some sort of patch from Canon if needed next.

Good luck with that perry, I don't think shes used her vid cam in a couple years, I know she has a pile of the mini DVD, Frankly I lost interest in vid cams when they dumped the easy to dub to VHS mini tape units for Digital, whats the use of better pic quality if a fairly intellegant person can't easily edit it onto an easily duped master

It is still not working. This is infuriating. I tried downloading two different programs and the downloads did not completely work. Guess I have to buy a program or something.
I naively thought this would be plug and play.

Finally got it figured out. The mini DVD's need to be finalized in the camcorder. After that I used a program called handbrake to convert the MPEG format to MP4's. With Microsoft Moviemaker we can now edit and make a presentable CD to send out. If anyone has an old stack of DVD's they want to get on the computer to edit I am all over it now.

Yah , there are just to many step in digital recording to be geezer friendly
on my dvr, I put disk in and it has to format, then set the timer or sit and wait to hit record, then after title it and format. You can't just thro in a disk on the spur of the moment when you find something worthwhile

We went through that nightmare for Mary Elizabeth's English Class video project. When I bought that video camera to use the mini DVDs, it all sounded so simple....NOT! I finally got some DVD-RAM discs (had to order; not available in stores) and they worked much better without having to finalize.
Glad you finally got it figured out. I'm thinking of getting rid of mine and trying one of those that use an internal hard drive.

Almost figured out Dick. We have a player now that recognizes the formats. I am still getting it into a format that we can change with Microsoft Movie Maker. The .avi will work, but of course the codec was wrong so working on figuring that out now.
This is a perfect tiny camera to take skiing, but jeez what a pain to use the files.
I'll try some of those in the format you mentioned.
