I have a dell, its OK, from talking to puter savvy people, they are at the top of the heap for ready made. That one looks good for the money. Tho I would go for as much RAM as they can put in, 256 is not much, I have 384 megs RAM on my 400, go for at least 2x512 mem chips. 3 would be better
I bought mine second hand, but was dismayed to learn that Dell supports anti second amendment causes

Customer Service for a Dell beats out that for Compaq, from my experience this past Spring, Allen.

Save yourself a bunch of headaches, spend a little extra money and get a Mac. The new 17" iMacs are awesome!

That would be a great computer for your use. The only changes I would make would be to replace the CD-RW with the CD-RW/DVD combo drive, and to replace the mouse with the optical mouse. If you can afford it, get a flat screen monitor. If you don't want to follow all of my advice above, at least get the optical mouse. I have ordered more than 40 Dell computers for work this year, and the optical mouse has been one of the best upgrades I have made. They are much better than the roller balls. I believe software will soon be distributed on DVD, so I think the combo drive will be a good choice. It will save you from having to upgrade in the future.

You might want to upgrade to 512 MB RAM. I don't see much use for more than that unless you are running some serious apps such as statistics software (SAS), or some of the newer games.
