If you are talking about the play I think you are, that wasn't pass interference, it was just good double coverage on an underthrown ball.

No...this was the last play of the first half, Manning heaved it to the endzone...there were about 10 people standing there and the ball came through untouched. Steve Smith is standing there in position and #50 wraps him up...

Granted...it was a crazy play and it was hard to see what happened (I rewound it like 3 times to make sure), but it was Pass Interference. The only thing that would make it not PI is if the ball was tipped, but it did not look like it was touched.


Yes. It happened quite frequently in the NFL. The challenge isn't a "Penalty Challenge", it is a "Replay Challenge". The coach is challenging a call made on the field. Either a direct call or the lack of a call. The lack of a call is considered a call for the purposes of the Challenge. The referees decided it was a legitimate play and Bellicheck challenged it.

No...I understand the replay rule very well...I know how and why they can review a play, but I have never seen them review a missed penalty, ever! If you can review missed penalty's (which is what this was), you could review every play (which of course they don't). There is probably a penalty on every play...either holding or pass interference, whatever...

I just have never seen it done before...

I didn't see the play in the second quarter, I started watching it just before the half time show started with the arrow coming out into the heart on the field. I can't ever remember seeing a batted ball replayed, I had never even heard of the rule until then. I do remember seeing pass interference calls reviewed for a lack of the call. That is the part of the replay system that I have never liked though is that some plays are reviewable and some plays aren't, depending on the penalty or possible penalty.
