Doctor and patient relationships!!

I took Pat in today at 2:45 to see her cancer doctor and he was way behind in seeing patients. We ended up being the last patient for him today and he said that was alright as Pat was one of his favorite patient. Not so cool for me as we did not get home till 6:30.
Everything turned out fine for Pat and the doc talked for along time about how I was doing as well and we talked alot about the war in Iraq, He thinks "Bush is stupid" and that we need not go to war but I had my own opinions on that. I think we both had good points on the "Pros and Cons" of going to war.
The first time we gave him a Christmas present in the first year he treated Pat for lung cancer I thought he was going to cry.
The same thing happened to Pat's regular doc as well. Pat and I think at times docs don't get enough appreciation for what they do. They are up against it with hospital procedures and rules!
It has made us feel good to show our appreciation! Just thought I would share!

Hey Johnny, nice to see the human side of Drs brought to light. I agree the world they live in is hard enuff without all the bureaucratic BS thats forced on them
Nice to see them recognized for the great stuff they do

Finding a Dr. these days that will even take the time to talk to you about more than your medical problem is rare enough these days. Sounds like you have a good one there!

Hey Johnny,
Pat's good checkup is wonderful news! Way to go!

I've been fortunate to know many doctors on a personal level (and, of course, as a patient). The thing to remember is that they are people, too, with families, friends, and problems just like us. Most are very dedicated and in medicine to help people. That many become wealthy is a side benefit. Of course, just like any cross section of society, some are less dedicated and some downright arrogant, but the vast majority are good and caring people.

The pressures on drs. are enormous......what they do is often a matter of life or death....literally; even the GP who routinely just treats coughs and sniffles but occasionally has to recognize when a cough is a symptom of something much more serious. Long hours; bureacratic red tape; insurance restrictions; and the ever-present threat of a lawsuit.

I am very blessed to have had the benefit of some wonderful doctors, not just for me, but especially for FishGirl, who came into this world 6 weeks early with some very serious kidney problems. Thanks to those very caring and exceptional doctors, she is alive and quite healthy today.

Johnny; about that work thing.........I've always said: "Employment is good"!!!

Dick
