dishwasher malfunction
Last Friday after I ran my dishwasher, I found that the water didn't drain out of the machine at the end of the cycle. Grrrrr...
So I bailed out the water first with cups, then turkey baster, then finished soaking up the water with a sponge. Of course the manual is not where I keep all the other appliance manuals. Is there anything that I can do easily to fix it? The machine is a GE Profile, not the high end version, and about 5 years old.

I'm your man.
Dishwashers are cheap. Just get a new one and I'll come up and install it for you.

Cath,
might be an easy fix.
Remove the bottom rack, and look for a device that may be round, or cylindrical, about the size of a aerosol can lid (like a can of hairspray lid). Check to see if it has free up and down movement. If it sticks, or has difficulty moving up and down at least an inch or so, this will be your problem. This is a float switch for the pump to remove water at the end of each cycle and to tell the fill solenoid when to cut off the hot water supply when filling the basin at the beginning of a cycle. If the switch is stuck, it will not drain the water at the end of a cycle.
Could be the switch under the float.
Could be the timer circuit.
Your pump could be bad, but this is unlikely if the washer is cleaning the dishes as it runs.
Check the float switch first, then call me if that doesn't fix it.
btw, I have a B-day gift for you.

I think I have the same dishwasher and I had a similiar problem. I just ran it again (I didn't take the water out, I was too lazy and was willing to accept the consequenses) and it worked fine. I guess the dishwasher just had a momentary hiccup because it hasn't had that problem again.
