Discovery Chanel Bike Week will never be the same.
'Indian Larry' Said Killed at Bike Show
CONCORD, N.C. - A custom motorcycle builder known for his appearances on cable's Discovery Channel died Monday at a hospital of head injuries suffered during a stunt, officials said.
"Indian Larry" fell off a motorcycle Saturday while performing before 8,000 people at an arena outside Charlotte. He was not wearing a helmet, the officials said.
Indian Larry was standing on the moving bike when it began to wobble and went out of control, said Mike Downs, Cabarrus County deputy manager. His full name was not immediately known.
"Indian Larry was a man with great skill and talent as a mechanic and metal sculptor," said Robert Freeman, chairman of the county board of commissioners. "He will be truly missed by his fans here in Cabarrus County and throughout the nation."
Indian Larry, who appeared in movies and television shows, was featured on a Discovery Channel series in which motorcycle builders design and build bikes from scratch, then have them judged by motorcycle aficionados.

Standing on a moving bike and not wearing a helmet. Not very bright.

I hit the pavement going 70 and spent six months in the hospital. The only thing that saved me on that 102 degree day was that for some reason I grabbed my helmet. My motorcycle safety card and race classes did not ease the pain.
I wrecked a block and a half from my house on fresh oil.
Wear a helmet...that was the best 200 bucks I ever spent.
Oops..off my soapbox now.

Soap boxes are ok. I'm actually split on helmet laws.
There are two type of people in the world. Those who ride motorcycles, and those who don't. My dad and a lot of my friends ride, but I don't.
My dad wears a helmet because it's the law, and a law that he has voted against. I guess it doesn't bother me that bikers don't have to wear helmets in certain states. My dad wished he didn't have to wear one. He thinks it restricts his vision, movement and hearing, but he'd rather have the option instead of being forced.
I look at it this way...wearing a helmet is a good idea, providing you're a safe rider. Many people are still alive because they wore a helmet. Unfortunately, a helmet can't always save you from other people, unsafe riding practices, or motorists that don't pay attention to what's going on around them. At some speeds or types of accidents, a helmet isn't going to help you no matter what. So I can see the points that both sides make. I'm more of the type of person that thinks, if you're going to do something risky, it's your responsibility to protect yourself and/or those around you.
If I rode a lot, would I wear a helmet? yeah...I've got one up stairs, and I don't even have a bike...for just in case.
It's sad to see a master artisan passaway, no matter what circumstances.

I too get both sides of the helmet law arguments. I used to work medical for motorcycle road races here & have seen some pretty bad stuff so I know I'd always wear one if I rode.

Bummer on Indian Larrys passing, tho I suspect that he would rather that than getting centerpunched by a near blind old lady in a busy intersection.
I ahve had a Bell Star (70s model) ruined in a walk away street accident back when, my last episode also rendered my helmet useless. I hate em, but I havent ridden bare headed in years. HAd I not had one on last year, my broken leg would have been least of my worries

I agree on not having to be told I have to wear one when riding but I have almost always wore one anyways. I have been saved by then once and prolly wont ride without again.

Yep, sure did. For a couple of years. Did the CRA races and one or two AMA races.
