I think you could. As long as you trained them to poop outside the tank I think they could take care of any algae problem. LOL

Sorry Alice, for some reason I stopped getting reply notifications for this thread.

The birds are American Coots. The mother actually chased down a duck and sat on it to keep it away from her young.

We had those things all over our golf course (in Lompoc) and they called them mud hens for some reason. I think you are right on with the Coot name though.

You're absolutely right Perry, they are also called mudhens and are related to moorhens.

I think the recipe to cook those is similar to a carp....nail one to a board then soak for 12 hours....season heavily with garlic, butter and herbs.

After 3 hours of cooking at 250 degrees then take off the mud hen and serve the board with mashed potatoes and vegetables.
