Dimmers...

if I install a dimmer, is it going to consume more electricity than a light bulb ?
just curious. Since I still have no tank to mess with, at least I want to spend time changing a few things in my apartment.

Well without knowing the specific dimmer its hard to say. Are you on 110 or 220vac?
As a rule a dimmer reduces power to the item consuming so i would say prolly less but then again I am not an EE so dont take my word for it

A dimmer will take you from 0% to 100% of the full lights output (incandescent lights only). All it does is act as a voltage divider.

If you are worried about conserving energy those flourescents that fit in a light bulb socket are the way to go. They last forever but cost more up front. Head on over to HD or Lowes and try that out.
