it's not so much a reward...as it is a rule to weed out those people who register, and make 1 or 2 posts causing trouble.
For example, if someone was allowed to post pics their first couple posts, we'd have people (or companies) registering, just so they can post offensive or annoying pics.
Same with other things.
We (the mods) delete spam/junk posts DAILY. That's right...it's not just e-mail anymore. Some clever organizations have created "bots" that go out, surf the web, find forums, create accounts, and post garbage.
The post count merit system (just made that name up), I believe, is to prevent some common problems the TRT crew has had in the past.
But I do also understand your point...as I've often wondered that myself. But later came to think of it not so much as a quantity thing as it is a seniority/time served thing to gage someone's true interest in being a part of the community before letting them have certain priveledges.
