Dads with marriable age daughters

If you have a daughter thats that age or getting ready to embark, the emotional turmoil that dads go thru is really difficult to describe, but this song comes really close, Hopefully someone can recognize and maybe link the songm but I will post the lyrics. It gets airplay on Country stations but look past that to the words :

)Artist/Band: Heartland
Lyrics for Song: I Loved Her First
Lyrics for Album: Heartland Lyrics
Look at the two of you dancing that way
Lost in the moment and each others face
So much in love your alone in this place
Like there's nobody else in the world
I was enough for her not long ago
I was her number one
She told me so
And she still means the world to me
Just so you know
So be careful when you hold my girl
Time changes everything
Life must go on
And I'm not gonna stand in your way

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But it still hard to give her away
I loved her first

How could that beautiful women with you
Be the same freckle face kid that I knew
The one that I read all those fairy tales to
And tucked into bed all those nights
And I knew the first time I saw you with her
It was only a matter of time

But I loved her first and I held her first
And a place in my heart will always be hers
From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
And I prayed that she'd find you someday
But its still hard to give her away
I loved her first

From the first breath she breathed
When she first smiled at me
I knew the love of a father runs deep
Someday you might know what I'm going through
When a miracle smiles up at you
I loved her first

I have gone through this twice already and 3 more to go. The boy is hard to let go also but I know he can take care of himself, but my little girls.. it kills me to see them grow up and leave.

Doug, you don't even want to read the last part of this one unless you've got a box of Kleenex handy:

Sung by Tim McGraw:

"There's two things I know for sure
She was sent here from heaven and she's Daddy's little girl
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night
She talks to Jesus and I close my eyes
And I thank God for all of the joy in my life
Oh, but most of all for..

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
"Walk beside the pony Daddy, it's my first ride
I know the cake looks funny Daddy but I sure tried"
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every morning and butterfly kisses at night

Sweet sixteen today
And she's lookin' like her mamma a little more every day
One part woman, the other part girl
To perfume and make-up, from ribbons and curls
Trying her wings out in a great big world
But I remember...

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
You know how much I love you Daddy
But if you don't mind I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right
To deserve her love every morning and butterfly kisses at night

Oh the precious times
Oh, like the wind the years go by
Precious butterfly
Spread your wings and fly

She'll change her name today
and she'll make a promise and I'll give her away
Standing in the bride room just staring at her
She asked me what I'm thinking and I said "I'm not sure,
I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl"
And she leaned over...and gave me...

Butterfly kisses with her mamma there
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
"Walk me down the aisle Daddy, it's just about time
Does my wedding gown look pretty Daddy? Daddy don't cry"
Oh, with all that I've done wrong, I must have done something right
To deserve a her love every morning and butterfly kisses

I couldn't ask God for more
Man, this is what love is
I know I've gotta let her go, but I'll always remember
Every hug in the morning and butterfly kisses."

You're right about the emotional turmoil for dads. Everybody thinks about the mom crying at the weddings but poor old dad has to walk her up to the preacher and give her away with knots in his stomach and choking back the tears.

My grown daughter and son are happily married and have given me two granchildren. FishGirl is forbidden to even date until she's 30!!!

Dick

Oh man! you guys are making me cry!
When I first heard Butterfly kisses my girl was like 2 and even then I was tearing up, she will be 10 this month and she is begining to change to a young lady, I think about the time when she leaves the house and it is dificult to hold back. Doug's song is right, I love her first, and if anyone ever hurts my girl.... he won't like me very much after that!
I am trying to enjoy my kids as much as I can. My son as well, he still gives me kisses, I know he will stop when he thinks he is too old to kiss daddy, with my girl I hope to get kisses until I die.

Those are great songs. When a young man asks to take out my daughters my responce is usually. " Listen boy I have been to Prison once and aint scared to go back!" Then I give them that insane eye and head twitch.

Hehehehe, therees a song on Rodney Atkins albim that sounds appropraite here

Artist/Band: Atkins Rodney
Lyrics for Song: Cleaning This Gun (Come on in Boy)
Lyrics for Album: If You're Going Through Hell

The Declaration of Independence
Think I could tell you that first sentence
But then I’m lost

I can't begin to count the theories
I've had pounded in my head
That I forgot

I don't remember all that Spanish
Or the Gettysburg address
But there is one speech from high school
I'll never forget

(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Ain’t it son?
Hey y'all run along and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Bet I’ll be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun

Well now that I’m a father
I’m scared to death one day my daughter
Is gonna find
That teenage boy I used to be
That seems to have just one thing on his mind

She’s growin' up so fast
It won't be long before
I’ll have to put the fear of god into
Some kid at the door

(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all go out and have some fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun

Now it's all for show
Ain’t nobody gonna get hurt
It’s just a daddy thing
And hey, believe me, it works

(Chorus)
Come on in boy sit on down
And tell me about yourself
So you like my daughter do you now?
Yeah we think she's something else
She's her daddy's girl
Her momma's world
She deserves respect
That’s what she'll get
Now ain't it son?
Y’all run along and have a little fun
I'll see you when you get back
Probably be up all night
Still cleanin' this gun

Son, now y'all buckle up and have her back by te- let's say about nine...thirty.
Drive safe.

well still being young (20yrs old) and a only daughter.. it wasnt easy for either of my parents.. AND im married. I got married about 6 months ago. My husband is great and my family loves him. we bought a house about 1 1/2 years ago. We have been together for almost 3 years now. It was just time. We dont have any kids yet but after my dad realized that I was still his little girl..hes ready for a grand baby... all i can say is just be there cause times will get hard and its nice to know that your parents are there for you no matter what. its nice knowing when you are having troubles..you still have your parents to talk to.
my parents wished that i would of stayed in the house a lil bit longer..but i was ready..so if there ready.. let em go..but im sure they will be back or need you real soon.
nice to see that real side of dads...

Sara, dads are ready for grandkids, no matter how much they protest once they see that little bundle they melt

Hehehehe Kelli, here ya go

Artist/Band: Allan Gary
Lyrics for Song: Tough Little Boys
Lyrics for Album: See If I Care

Well I never once
Backed down from a punch
Well I'd take it square on the chin
Well I found out fast
A bully's just that
You've got to stand up to him
So I didn't cry when I got a black eye
As bad as it hurt, I just grinned
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again.

Scared me to death
When you took your first steps
And I'd fall everytime you fell down
Your first day of school, I cried like a fool
And I followed your school bus to town
Well I didn't cry, when Old Yeller died
At least not in front of my friends
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again

Well I'm a grown man
And as strong as I am
Sometimes its hard to believe
That one little girl, with little blonde curls
Could totally terrify me
If you were to ask
My wife would just laugh
She'd say "I know all about men
How when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again"

Well I know one day, I'll give you away
And I'm gonna stand there and smile
And when I get home, and I'm all alone
Well, I'll sit in your room for a while
Well I didn't cry when Old Yeller died
At least not in front of my friends
But when tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again
When tough little boys grow up to be dads
They turn into big babies again.
