Cutting Into Cancer - A Survivor's Mission
One of my very best friends is taking a unique approach to raising money for cancer research and awareness programs. See: http://www.wbir.com/news/health/stor...=60701&catid=3
Kevin and I have been close friends for over 35 years, from back in the days when we were both poor together. He isn't anymore and is using his very successful knife company to promote cancer awareness and raise money to take a cut at cancer. He's donated a great deal of his personal money but doesn't like to talk about that as he's a very humble guy.
This is Kevin & I on the occasion of his son's wedding a few years ago.
When I first met Kevin, he was trading and selling arrowheads and knives out of the trunk of his car at fairs, swap meets, and had a small booth at Dollywood. He now owns the biggest mail-order knife business in the world and the world's largest knife showplace in Sevierville. http://www.eknifeworks.com/CompanyInfo.html
He's quite a guy.

Give your friend my regards, Dick, cudos to him for his push for cancer support.
Just a related comment for those of you who don't know Tony Snow, former Washington Newsman and Press Secretry to both Bush Presidencies. Check some of the google information on him, he is such an inspiration to the folks that are enduring cancer or treatment regimens, and a shining example of how to be involved in a Political world yet stay grounded to what is truly important in his life and how to go about living it.
His untimely death is a huge loss for all of us, even though this is better for him, he will be missed like no other.
RIP Tony.

Always good to see progress made, the losses are always devastating for the victims and families.
Having experienced first hand back in 81, My hats off to all the really tough people that were able to keep it at bay or survive

Great story Dick.
My mom is over 20 years with repeated bouts of breast cancer and was treated with drugs like herceptin and others that were experimental and is still hanging in there.
My dad was supposed to live 6 months but got 10 years in with radical treatment for his colon cancer.
Anything we can do to move technology and care along is great.
Tom Tony Snow was my one of my favorite journalists and a perfect White House Press Secretary and it was sad to see him go.

I can only echo above comments as my mother has recently been diagnosed with lung cancer (never smoked and dad quit many, many (I was either quite young or not even thought of yet as I do not remember him smoking) years ago). It has been quite a blow to us as she has had moderately poor health for years...born with a heart defect and surgery at the time created scar tissue that has created nothing but problems. She is currently in TX for treatment.
