Computer crud
Hey Gang;
The small fan in my computer is making a gawd-awful noise. I took the case off and cleaned both fans but I didn't have any machine oil handy.
Is it as easy as it looks to replace these fans?
Thanks!

Thanks, Tom
The power supply isn't even a year old.

Alice, are you talking about the fan in the power supply or the cpu cooling fan on the board inside the computer?

She's talking about the one that requires a screwdriver and ballpin hammer to take it out.

Alice uses a powersaw to carve a pumpkin. Do we really want her working on her own puter?

Do not oil! If you think it gathers a lot of dust now put some oil on it and it will be a dust magnet.

I guess it's the one on the board, Greg. It's not the one that's vented to the outside of the case.
Jerel, that's *ballpeen* hammer and no, I did not use a butter knife.
LOL Rick

That one is very easy to replace. Should just be four screws to remove and one plug.
Turn off the computer, remove the fan. Take it to somebody that sells them and have them give you one that matches.
DO NOT RUN THE COMPUTER WITHOUT THIS FAN INSTALLED AND WORKING. At worst you can permenantly damage it, and at best it will act unreliably if the chip overheats.

Thanks, Greg. I replaced the power supply last time because the fan quit working and it overheated. Now I know why this one was so cheap, even though it included the power supply, fan and new case...the fan is a POS! Fan is still running at this point, albeit loudly but I will fix it ASAP.
Thanks for the tip, Mafiaman.
Doug, no butter knife but the fan noise will quit, for a little while anyway, when I bang on the side of the case.
