College poll
So my year goals include going back to school but i can't decide where to go. Harvard is the dream but i will probably have to go for something cheaper (i don't have $36,000 per year for school alone). So let me know what you think from the following choices. the Major is Political science with possable minors in Linguistics, Economics, or Law. the schools listed are the ones i can tolerate (me very picky)

That is a lot of coin for a Poli Sci degree. Why not major in Law and minor in Poli Sci so you can pay off your student loans faster?

Heh!
I saw one of the ads on the Discovery Channel for the "Dirty Jobs" show that is a spoof based on one of the diploma mill home study tech schools that Sally Struthers used to promote. They have the list scrolling by, things like "Bird poop remover, sewer inspector, Septic tank cleaner, worm farmer, grease spill remover...
LAW...
What is the difference between a catfish and an attorney?
One is a slimy, bottom-dwelling, detritus eating scumsucker at the bottom of eutrophic food chains...
...the other is a fish.

I don't know enough about the Oregon schools to give a fair assessment. The Ivy League schools haven't been a good value in over 10 years, imho, even with the coin you make coming out of them.

Not sure how spendy UO or OSU are for outta state/district tuitions, prolly hellish , reflecting the states economic woes, I try to avoid that part of the state as its the densly populated liberal area that makes life hell for the rest of us

Ugh, for undergrad, there is really no point to an ivy league school. Get solid grades at a state school for a reasonable amount of money, then go for the ivy league for grad school.

Good reasoning, Doug!! Sounds like a good place to be away from!
Interesting that you included BYU in the poll choices, Twitter. It's philosophically 180 degrees from the others. Yale would be a better choice of the Ivy's.....not quite so far to the left.
My personal criteria for college choices would begin with " Someplace Warm"!!!

I included BYU because it would warm my parents hearts (they went there) and they have a pretty decent program.

I dont know your philosophical or political leanings and believe it or not thats a touchy subject, but if its a decent education you want without the distractions of political activism, I think BYU is prolly the most no nonsense choice.
Uof O and SOU are often refered to as Berkley North, amzingly by folks on both ends of the spectrum, obviously on one end its a badge of honor, on the other end its a putdown.
Personally for what a college education costs, i would focus on an education and a degree thats worth something, IMO the ecoplitical law field is saturated
Since you are into reefs, a few classes in chem, zoology and basic marine bio wouldnt hurt
