Chipmunk removal

I am sitting here in my garage on my computer. There is a chipmunk which has dug in under the patio out back. I can hear it barking and scratching against the garage wall and it is driving me CRAZY!!!!!!!!!!!!! Any ideas on how to make him move on to another location? I don't want to kill him, but he is collapsing the bricks on our patio and I really don't want to listen to him talk to me through the garage wall. Any ideas would be great.

Andrew

Unforutnately, based on past experience with chipmunks, the only way I know of to get rid of them is to "get rid of them". You might try catching them in a live trap and relocating them to a far far and distant land. Other than that flooding the tunnels for extended periods of time (can cause "flood/washout" damage), and gopher bombs...

Hav-A-Hart trap. They make a small model which should work well for chipmunks. I've used the larger ones for squirrels. I like to poke em with sticks while they're in the trap. They love it.

Our chipmunks/ground squirrels used to go into our garage, but they don't anymore.

I feed them daily along with the wild birds in the backyard. They live aruond and under the turtle pond, which is a kid's plastic pool. I really like our chipmunks, and they come up near the patio door if they run out of food and peer in, but are very afraid if I get too close.

They do not live in large groups and are very territorial, so we only have one, maybe two at the most, families at a time, and then the youngsters move on.

We also have a number of rabbits in the neighborhood, and they live under the mini-barn. This is a subdivision in town, and to kill them would not really accomplish anything. It would just free up the "real estate" for others to move in.

HAHAHAHA! Oh man, I didn't know it was bugging him that much!

Which probably makes the fact that our neighbor caught the chipmunk in his squirrel trap yesterday AND LET IT GO even more annoying.

Oh well. That's why I don't spend my time in the garage - chipmunk chatter.

Do you have a cat? do you have a cat-box? do you know someone who does? Try sperading some used kitty litter around the hole where (s)he gets in from. most small rodents have a natural fear to cats.

Hm... yep, we have cats. Might try that. I'm waiting for the dog to come through again and take care of him - the chipmunk sits outside the downspout and taunts the dog. When the dog heads that way, up the downspout it goes! Unfortunately, the dog takes the spouts off occasionally!

Maybe the cat thing would work better.

Our Schnauzer has chased our chipmunks, but to no avail. (Our cat isn't allowed outdoors, and she's too stupid anyway. Just ask Jeff, I'm sure he'll agree.)

When we lived in Louisiana we had a problem with -- Norwegian Roof Rats -- in the historic district of town. Well, we rescued two outdoor cats from the Shelter, and they definitely took care of the roof rats...the poor lady next door inherited them! They left our property and house (they'd run up the inside walls of the 100 yr old house and end up in the attic) and she walked into her kitchen one morning to see one cleaning his face while sitting in front of her refrigerator! She really did come unglued over that! She had three dogs, but that didn't faze the rats!
