Cell Phones & Telemarketing - Don't Call List
I received this from one of my friends. I just registered my Cell No.
Dick
The national directory of cell phone numbers is about to be published. Once this happens telemarketers will have access to your cell phone number! This will be even more annoying than the calls to your "regular" phone because in addition to being a disruption, these calls will also use your cellular minutes. If you wish to avoid this, register your cell number on the National Do Not Call list as soon as possible.
Don’t forget this applies to your home, business and toll free numbers also.
You can do this online by going to http://www.donotcall.gov
or by calling 888-382-1222 from the phone you wish to register. (The website is really easy and gives you feedback to your e-mail instantly that it has been registered.

Of course the easy solution would be for the cell phone not to accept any calls that aren't stored it it's phone book. It could act more like a call back number for a VPN.

The telemarketer bit is a hoax:

The directory idea is proposed, but it's not a reality yet, and no expected completion date is discussed.
Cheers,
Jenn

I've read several of those.....I'm convinced the Hoax Story is a Hoax!
I do not trust any of the phone companies; telemarketers; or even the agencies regulating them.

I work for a cell phone company and the FTC has specifically said that their policy is to not make the numbers public. If this did happen, imagine your minutes just dwindle. Every company would have to have free incoming calls. Anyhow, as stated by Jenn, this is indeed a hoax, and the numbers will not be publicized. The FTC was actually pissed off because they usually get about 100,000 people for the do not call list and last week, they received 2.5 million. I wouldn't worry about it. Emails did fly around, and I take it that whoever started it, is very happy with his/her results.

Also found out that you have to "Opt In" to the published 411 list. They will not just put you on it.

The only thing I would worry about it when you get on a "opt out" list, they will sell your name to someone else. Then your back in again.
