cell phones
I'm considering leaving cingular/att and using a prepaid wireless phone.
Does anyone have any comments about these services? I only use the phone about 200 minutes a month and am tired of spending 50 bucks a month for it.
I think using prepaid, I can get by a lot cheaper...thoughts?

I hardly use mine so I got ATT pre-paid. No problems with it.

I have a Tracphone, granted its the cheapo model but the coverage sucks and with Tracphone the minutes arent that cheap , If you buy big enough to get a years worth before you HAVE renew its not a lot cheaper but you can walk away with out being stuck with a 2 yr commitment

we love our trakfone
The company pays for this Q-Phone I'm typing thiss message on.
The wife and daughter use verizon but it is expensive if you don't talk much.
My son and one of my maintenance guys have used Trakfone for years ... we love it.
My son used something like 19 minutes last year ... we buy a 1 year card, for something like $100/$150 (cant remember) and when you load it in you usually get a bunch of minutes free.
Once they have your email, they send out a ton of specials ... specially when your year is about up ... I think my son is up to 800 some odd minutes, but he only uses it to call for a ride or if he needs something.
The guy I work with has one for himself and his wife ... says they only use 100 min/year or so ... and they love it.
My giys asked me to budget one for the company van ... seems we always need to call someone who just left for home depot or so to add something to the list.

I have never gotten any promo offers from Trac Phone, when I got it they told me that it would basically use whatever carrier was active in the area I was in, but I have found that at least on the 15$ phone the reception is terrible the coverage I get is not as good as Nextell on the old phone i had, Wife and Daughter pay out the nose for Sprint without Nextell, but Sprint uses US Cellular towers out here, but my phone signal dies about 8 miles out of town so the last 14 mi of my drive home I am incommunicado. For me its not a big deal its for out of town and emergency only but its pretty dissapointing covereage, esp compared to the old work supplied Motorola A/D phone I had with my old job

I just set my wife up with the ATT prepaid (GoPhone I think). Seems to work just fine and will work just fine for those very few times she uses it.

I gave you most of the info through the PM's but I do want to add that I've had no converage issues with my page plus phone,.. and the Min's are half what trak phone charges in the diffrent cost brackets.

I got the $15 Tracphone, its ok when its in a covered area, the reception might be better on the more deluxe version, I don't know. I may look at the Go Phone when I have to recharge minutes next month, I wonder if I change , can I keep the same number or is that a vendor exclusive thing
