Cat very sick need help asap

My 7 year old orange cat has been very lethargic lately and also drinking alot of water than usual. he is eating food.

It wasnt until today that my dad noticed that the animal went into the open top litter box, squatted in a position for pee, (we know that it wasnt poo because the tail didnt go up and there was no smell or farting)
and remained in the litter for about 2o minutes. He leaped out and no pee or poo was there. The animal was trying to pee but couldnt.

what does this mean? How serious is this? I dont know if the vet is open tomorrow , but is this urgent enough for emergincy care?
we are very worried he is a great cat

Is he in pain?
If no pain, wait until tomorrow but definately go
He probably has a urinary tract infection, very common in boy cats.

agree with joanne. Might also try some pedialite if he'll take it. We had to do that with out female dog when she had a urinary tract infection. Also keeps them hydrated.

yep many human diseases are just as harmfull to our pets. One of my dogs was on meds for high blood pressure and the other on puppy prozac because she had severe seperation anxiety. Hope your kittly is just under the weather and in need of some tlc.

No, certainly wasn't joking. I have two cats myself and these are some of the symptoms of the recalled foods. Glad to hear he wasn't on the recalled foods. My cats will only eat one type of food. I'm thankful that wasn't the kind. I'm afraid they'd starve.

How is he doing today? Did you take him to be seen last night?

Male cats can also get "stones" (like kidney stones) in their bladders from calcium build up and too much Ash in their food (this is what my vet told me). These stones can block their urinary tract and if not dissolved or removed they can block the urinary tract completely. If this happens the urine becomes toxic and can back up through their systems causing seizures and eventually death.

Sorry for sounding so gross and morbid but it's essential you get him to a vet asap. I lost one of my favorite pets to this exact thing about 6 yrs ago and he showed the same symptoms as you mentioned.

I hope your little friend feels better soon.

I spoke to the fair half who is a vet, and she said to take your cat to the vet. Could be a couple of things, all of which require treatment.
