Can I get some TRT history pls?

1. Just wondering how old is TRT? I know I've seen post from 2000.
2. Is the founder or original members still around and post here today?
Anyone?

Well I think i can help you out, look at my join date, thats actually when i and a few others(Alice and FishDaddy) discovered a little web based Q and A website based forum. We all knew each other and others from the older boards and the dark ages of the flame wars on boards like Aqualink and Reefsdotorg. We found this little board and started hanging out and answering questions because on the big boards newbies were treated so badly, that we instituted a policy that the only stoopid question was the one not asked. Amazingly it took off and around Aug 200, IIRC the lady who owned the website that we started on upograded to a server based forum, and TRT was born.
Among the alumnus from the early days was one Larry M, who with 2 other guys went on to start Reef Central, the 3 of them had a lot better network of dissolusiioned reefers and that boards growth was phenomenal, to say the least, tho not without some serious growing pains.
Our goal at TRT has ALWAYS been aand still is to promote a close knit family of reef hobbiests that are ALWAYS willing to help out the new reefer and guide them thru the process.
Over the years we have had 3 Pacific Northwest picnics in conjunction with hosting local clubs, the last few years Tom Wyatt has graciously hosted a couple pig roast BBQ's in SC drawing reefers from the East coast and Atlanta area.
We are trying to get something going in the Midwest and another west coast gathereing . Its gatherings like this where you get to see members face to face and know them personally , i feel cements the family bond we enjoy here

I think what Doug said about the family atmosphere is awesome.

I got to meet Tom and Cath personally and they were terrific and some folks on TRT were there when I went through a little bit of a rough patch.

This is basically one big family and it seems like wherever you go someone on TRT is there.

After just a couple of years this is really the happiest place on the internet with real folks.

Doug, Thanks for the lowdown. I must say this board is MUCH better. I like to say thanks 'cause I'd be lost w/out TRT and overlooked on others.

Interesting! Thanks. And if it matters, I kind of like it here... I may have let myself in, but someone else is going to have to show me the way out

Ditto to what was said already about how great TRT is,,

And to add what I'm quoting Doug above, How many places anyone can think of, that has a "Good Morning" thread as a regular thing, let alone have it two pages long most everyday? (prob not any, or few and far between)

Think that sez a long about what TRT is all about.

That, and we don't jump down anyone's throat for asking " my fish has white dots on it" ,when someone just wants to know and not get chewed out for asking any newbie type questions. A newbie's standard starting out question/concerns are answered like it was never asked b4, giving that person a response, and not slamming them for asking "such a stupid question, you should know better than bother us with that kinda stuff".

BTW: We have a kick butt archive of topics and prev questions, for those that want to look for them, but ask away if you still want to, we don't bite

The Reef Tank is a part of my everyday life, Ever since the first time I went and posted in the morning Thread,I knew I wanted to become a part of this Family, I'm not going to mention anyone person as it is everyone that makes this site so great, It was a big honor when asked if I wanted to be part of the staff here on TRT, I have made many great friends here and I don't have to worry about my kids reading aything on TRT, It is one of the few really Family Friendly sites aroud,TRT rocks!!!

I want to go to a wescoast gathering!!!, I was reading somewhere that there is going to be a little convention down in san Diego on i believe reefing supplies or something along those lines. I know its off topic but anyone heard about that? Also like to say this has been part of my everyday life for about a month or so also. Love the pictures and the Feeling that everyone knows you even though you have never talked to the person before.
