The "Supervisors" probably know just as much as you do. Their responses are easily pointed out for Customer Service and to keep the customer happy... REmember, the customer is always right. Im not saying he was lying, cuz I stated the same fact in my earlier post ;P But tech support is a buncha people, going through a 3 week training course and reading a script to you from a SCreen.. a friend and I have done some CS Tech - for verizion before and its silly the people they let obtain these jobs.
Not sure what DSL service you used, but I require No software to run my DSL or connect. I use a NIC Card and Fujitsu Modem. The Switch, Router and Local HUB at the Switch controlls those things.
The time I had used cable, it required software. If your using LInux, with either Broadband provider you have to setup your DHNS to get either to work correctly.
We could go on all day about this topic I bet, but either is as easy to use. Some providers systems work differently than others to setup and ensure proper routing through whatever source.
Besides, if you used a Hub at your home, you wouldnt have to "Switch": your modem to whatever computer you were using and it would be as easy as turning on yhour other computer to use it. (Er besides having to purchase a seperate IP address unless using GPL Programs out there)
BTW you cant rate the DSL service, by the Customer service you recieved - again thats dependant on the Provider you use and how they train their Techs.

Decision Made...
Cable modem will be hooked up between 3-5 pm today Ultimately it came down to 1) i have cable at work, and I like it 2) I tried to get a promotional DSL package from Earthlink, and couldn't because Ameritech (phone co) won't allow them to run their DSL through the lines. I can't stand stingy people I can't wait to get home and update my web site. I havn't recently because I thought I was sprouting roots waiting for those pics to load, lol. Thanx for all the info guys!

Hi All! We have just got DSL to our area in Missoula, Montana and I know my wife Pat would love it because she does alot of downloading from patterns she receives for her craft work!
The only problem is with AOL and DSL it would cost me around $60-$65 a month or more! Is there a cheaper way to go? Thanks, Johnny

If you have DSL, you dont need AOL. You can use Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator as your browser, It's better than the one that AOL uses anyway. And if you want to IM, you can download and use it from AOL for free. You will have to get new email addresses and screen names, but its worth the 20 extra bucks a month. Even better- get an Internet E-mail account. ICQ, Yahoo, and heck even Budweiser offer free e-mail accounts. You can use them no matter how you connect to the internet.

depends on where you are...
If you are near a Hub, or in the burbs or in the boonies....the key to this question is location, location, location.
Cabley Yours,
Mike
