building a new flower bed!

We put in a solid and hard 4 hours today, and about 2 hours 2 days ago. This flower bed is about 22 feet long by 8 feet wide. I already have it all planted, in my mind, and I'd like to accomplish that yet this fall! The snow is coming, so of course it's time to start thinking of flowers!
We've wanted to do this all summer, and it was either get er' done or leave it sit til next year. Now we can enjoy it next year.

Oh, it is all screwed together, we used a level that is why it goes into the ground on the right side. Kevin even drove rerod in to hold it so the frost doesn't push it around as easy. 2 in the front and 2 in the middle cross sections.

Very Nice!!! Looks Great!!!

I like your house perched on the hill with forest all around. : )

Camm has been working on a new little flower garden in the last few days as well. Weve already had a littel bit of snow here. Didnt even stick...but it fell I used to ski a ton and LOVED it when the snow woould come. Now i still get 20 days a year or so in...but the snow can wait...the longer the better

Rookie...

I spent an entire weekend, am to dusk last year planting over 5,000 bulbs
The year before I planted over 1000
This year I'm taking it easy until the garage is built
Then another area by the garage, and along the new walkway/driveway
Also building a 7' x 10' greenhouse in back & added a 8' x 14' veggy garden beyond that. I have a lot of perennials going too
I've been adding gardens along every fence

Looks great Jess!!!

Nice smaller projects that get done nicely in a day are really my speed. Probably too cold to really get some compost and amendments in but come spring you are ready to go right out of pony packs soon as the frost is gone.

Over there I imagine wondering whether something is an annual or a perennial is just like here...everything is an annual.

too cold? bahhh! It's not too cold until the ground is frozen solid! I'm going to call a friend tomorrow and see if he has a tiller cuz that's one of the few things we do not possess. I have no room for anything, because the other bed needs thinning badly! This is going to be yet another perennial bed... the top back section will include in the beginning:
snowball bush, bleeding heart, balloon flower, moon flower, coriopsis, 3 types of sedum, creeping phlox, lambs ear and assorted spring bulbs.
Bottom front bed will include:
about a dozen or so unidentified got-them-from-the-inlaws perennials, a row of about 7 varieties of bearded iris (they will go along the back edge to leave room in front), pink and white pampass grass, coral bells, er, about another dozen unidentified perennials... the big bed in back will be redone to split and line up all the lilies I have, and the spiderwort, and all the hens and chicks! The blue fescue and the yuca are staying put, as well as the liatris and all the spring bulbs there.

Does anyone have lots of hiacinth bulbs that need a new home? I want 50 or so... I will no doubt have to order those.

If you'd like to see pics of my flowers from this year, just click on my tank pics link, then go to the bottom and click on "index", there you can choose my flowers album.

I have to thin out my perennials next year
I have black-eyed Susans all over
Most are being moved out back along a fence
I have lupines that I have been transplanting around
I have about 4 dozen hibiscus - very large flowers
Just planted 30 this year, so they should flower next year pretty good. Some of them started this year
I also was holding about 100 orchids for a friend for a few montsh while he moved. I ended up with about 2 dozen african violets Plus other plants he didn't take with him

Lupines

Well it's just about done! Kevin finished up the building of it this week, and I was able to get that tiller so we hauled more soil and tilled it yesterday. I raked it smooth and was planting til well after dark, using the yard light to see what I was doing!
I'm so happy with it, I think it's going to look GREAT next year. We still need to go get a load of mulch but we'll do that this week. See? It's full already!

oh, then for fly guy, here is a fts of our yard!
