Baseboard Heater Problems

Don't know if anyone here would have any ideas on what the problem is:

The electric baseboard heaters in my apartment will not shut off, so the apartment is at 80. Turning off the heater on the thermostat doesn't help, adjusting the temp on it doesn't help, the heaters are always on. Maintenance replaced the old thermostat and with the new one we are still having the same problems.... Any idea why they won't shut off?

Sounds like someone else's apartment has the controls to your heat...someone else is probably freezing because you keep shutting their heat off!! lol!!

I bet your maintenance team has some wires crossed somewhere...

turn off the breaker for now and then have them look at the wiring. it may just need to be reset.

Be careful with that thing running like that, I had a house burn down because of that.

The crossed a wire inside the thermostat box. I did it myself a year or so ago messing with my baseboards. If it is under property management of some type i would suggest calling them and telling them to come back and fix it....epsecially if they just did it int he first place. : )

Edit: i just saw you were having the same problems before they "fixed" it. There is sometimes a wire(i forget what it is called), that runs along the lenght of the baseboard. (it is filled with liquid) It somehow is an integral part of the thermostat......lol Check that for damage or breakage. That being damaged will casue the thermostat to be simply be an on/off piece of equipment as well.

The one on mine runs behind the reflector thingy.

Im obviously NOT a professional electrician....but i DO stick my hands everywhere to figure stuff out. lol

The only issue with that is it isn't just one heater, it's 3 different heaters in three different rooms.................

In my building the thermostat was located in the boiler room, locked down by the landlord. If yours is different contact the maintenance department
one more, document it and if it doesn't resolve the problem contact the management company suggest that they contact a professional. Guarantee that will solve the problem.
