Back in the hospital... and hurting

Ok, so I've mentioned this, but figured that I might as well make an official post to track Andy's progress. As some of you know, he was pretty sick last year with pancreatitis. Over the past year, he's developed a cyst-like structure (a pseudocyst, as it were) on his pancreas, which reached epic proportions on his most recent CT, and was smooshing everything around it to the point of causing problems.

Thursday, he went into surgery to have the beast drained, and a connection created into his stomach so that it will continue to drain into his stomach. He's got a long incision down his belly, and is inching his way to recovery. Sloowly. Today is post-op day 2, and he's starting to walk. Still in a lot of pain, but hanging in there.

My in-laws drove down the other day and are helping a great deal taking shifts at the hospital. He has great nurses, but there is no substitute to having someone there to help with the little things that come up being unable to do much (like scratch feet or get ice chips.) He's not eating yet, but hopefully that will come soon.

And I think now it's time for him to get back in bed (with his bad back, the bed isn't comfortable at all, but neither is the chair. Kind of a no-win situation.)

Danielle

Hey, Danielle-

Thanks for the detailed report here in M'vlle. We can keep up with his progress and add our prayers and TRT humor along the way. You are so right about family members being available to help out with things that medical staff is not able to do at a moment's notice.

Just strap him to the orange chair with some duck tape and put him in the back of a pickup truck, nice trip up to SC on 95...

Seriously, best wishes for a speedy recovery, looking forward to seeing both of you for the pigroast May 19th!

Sounds like Dr. Tom has just the right prescription, Danielle!

Give Andy my best wishes for a quick recovery and hope you can get some rest.

It is a fairly common procedure......here's an illustration of the proper technique:

Danielle,

Please let Andy know he'll definitely be in our thoughts and prayers. Hope he recovers in record time, and that he's done dealin with this crap for a while!!!

And I hope you're getting some rest during all this, and not stressing too much.

Keep us posted!

So far, so good. He's definitely on the mend, and while he can't put socks on by himself yet, he can get up out of bed and has been walking laps around the floor. His guts still aren't doing much yet, so he's stuck with a feeding tube through his nose until they let him eat. (We had hoped today it might come out, but they're being extra careful.)

I do hope we'll make it to the meeting, although it will depend on his stamina.

Danielle
