Babytalk magazine

So if you've opened this you're either a parent or you've heard of the controversy over their cover of a breast feeding baby. I am not a mother, and I see absolutely nothing wrong with that photo... I mean, this has been how it's been since the beginning of time. It is not a pornographic image at all, there's no n***** (sorry, don't know if that's an acceptable word!) showing at all.
It just bugs me and it was a topic at work tonight. No arguing, but does anyone find this offensive?

Here's a link to see the image, but BE CAREFUL! It shows a breastfeeding baby! Don't look if that offends you!

I had to laugh at some of the comments! "I shredded it", "I was SHOCKED" etc...

But, even though I'm not nearly offended by the picture, the magazine publishers MUST have known that a pic like this would draw out the most Conservative women ever....

And truthfully, if we would just let women roam topless ALL the time, a pic like this would go unnoticed!

I have two kids myself. The wife breastfedd both of them. At home and in public. It's the most natural thing there is. These folks that are offended need to get over it.

I worked at a place that had a very large group of Russians here on a joint scientific program and one of them made a comment one time that really stuck with me, "Americans are sick about sex!". She was right! The human body is a natural thing. There is absolultely nothing wrong with a mother feeding her child.

I think some mothers/people have WAY too much free time. If they put HALF the effort into taking care of their kids as they did complaining sex/violence/etc...we'd be in better shape.

You can write hundreds of letters and organize protests cause some new TV show depicts violence...or MAYBE ,just MAYBE you can sit down with your kid, and explain the difference between TV and real life. And how since you can't be there 24/7, explain to them that some things they'll see may shock them, and they need to realize it's make-believe, and that they shouldn't try to immitate it in real life.

Then again, I guess writing letters makes you feel better about yourself.

Who knows.

But I find it ironic that the VERY first thing most of us saw early in our life, can turn out to be offensive now that we're much older and much more educated.

Havent seen the magazone, nor heard about this particular contraversial episode , and tho pretty concervative in a lot of things I could never understand the Hoohaw about mothers breastfeeding in public, Its a conspiracy by the makers of baby formula, I tell you.. Then again I cant understand how we think its OK to steal the mammary extract of cows and goats for human consumption, but are grossed by the thought of mothers milk. It reminds me of the scene in "Look who's Talking" where Travolta is telling the kid how to make coffee then spits whin Kirstie Alley tells him he grabbed the breast milk

Guys can go shirtless, but its naughty when girls do, oh please, explain that one

There is SO much truth in THAT statement it really isnt funny..........

This friend of my stepdaughters Dad makes her (15 yrs old) go to church, grounds her for every thing she does wrong and has to have babysitters watch over her when hes out of town....which is often, usually on vacations with his girlfriend.....he NEVER takes his daughter on these vacations nor does he EVER eat dinner with her, or do anything with her besides worry about what a bad kid she is. He stays at his girlfriends the majority of the time. Yet he talks to us as if hes being a GOOD, CARING father who wants the best for his kid, and is super overprotective on a superficial level. Hes right as far as his daughter not being trustworthy or all that great of a kid, but it surely isnt her fault...i feel sorry for her. He would surely be one to publicly denounce pornography(or perceived pornography) that hi sdaughter had exposure to.
I have heard through the grapevine him saying things to mutual acquaintences about the awful things we allow our kid to do and how we're bad parents for not cracking down on her.
One of the few rules in our house is honesty, even if it isnt what we want to hear, and there arent going to be any repercussions becasue we dont like it. That goes for what has been done as well as what she plans on doing.
Funny thing about that is that we ALWAYS know where she is at and what she is doing and with whom. We even eat hang out together a few days and nights a week. Novel concept huh.
When she goes to stay at a friends house and they all plan on sneaking out to do something.......WE know where, what and with whom. How do we know??? Becasue she calls us first to tell us. Some people may say thats irresponsible and bad parenting, but i call it success.

FlyGuy, that IS success. You have her respect, that's lost nowdays... people want kids because their friends have them. They don't want to be parents, they want to be their kids "friend"... I'm a firm believer that there is nothing wrong with a crack across the butt, it is an attention getter, and it shouldn't be passed off as child abuse. The schools don't help that, telling kids noone can touch them... I mean, yes that is correct, but they've gone off the deep end with it.
Don't even get me started on time outs and counting to your kids... people don't follow through and they have 4 year olds laughing at them! Yeah, respect? They've lost control once the kid was born!

I have seen worse on other magazines and you don't hear any blowups about half naked women on them. Come on! I find absolutly nothing offensive about that photo. It's a baby magazine, why would you be shocked by a photo of a baby doing the most natural thing in the world.
