baby squirrel
Please someone help me. My cat just brought in a baby squirrel and it is alive!!!!
I called the local vet and they said to put it back under the tree and see if the mother comes to get it.
What do I do if the mother does not come and get it?

I almost ended up with pair of baby squirrels this morning. I was outside and they started raining down from the Palm tree. I checked them over to make sure they were not seriously injured and put them in a tub with some water and a towel. Mom came down and picked them up this evening.

I hope she gives them a stern lecture tonight about leaving the nest. It is going to be a windy day tomorrow and I don't want to see them blown out of the tree again.

The same thing happened to me once, except it was our dog. He brought it home and we new we just couldn't let it go back out so we made up a box with leaves and a warm light. A few days later we brought him to the UofM -twin cities. A few weeks later we got a letter saying that he made it through and they released him into the wild.

Dang. I just went outside and saw that a large part of their nest blew out of the tree and there are three babies curled up under it. I will leave them be for tonight and see if mom squirrel picks them up and repairs the nest. I hope they survive the night on the ground.

Mom squirrel came down and got them again. Whew! The last thing I need is more animals to take care of.
And as for the touching them thing, when I came home, there was a squirrel in Andy's lap running around. He handled both of the first two quite a bit to encourage them to climb back up - didn't stop mom squirrel from grabbing them and hauling them back up the tree.
