Anyone have a Sleep Number Bed?

I'm thinking about getting a new mattress and have always been curious about whether or not those sleep number beds are any good. Anyone one have one and care to share their experiences, good or bad?

We have been doing a lot of shopping too for our upcoming purchase and looked at those.

We looked at a Serta from their high end line with the individually wrapped coils though and decided to go that route. Now we are saving up the 1400 bucks.

Buying mattresses is full of pitfalls we found too, and they make it impossible to compare apples to apples.

Don't be cheap when it comes to a mattress. Spend the bucks on a good one

Both Dyan and I prefer a firm mattress so we sleep on a queen futon pad with a "temperpedic wannabe" over lay on it. She would love to have a sleep number bed, she likes em, but $$$$ is not happening at this point in time.

Amy, I think it's the nature of any foam product like that to break down over time, I am not sure how well the genuine Temperpedic holds up over the years, for the price they should last forever but I wouldn't bet on it.
At least the sleep number bed is adjustable, hopefully they are not prone to leaking, and use reliable controllers, I know from dealing with home care adjustable beds, the controllers are awfully expensive to replace considering what few parts are in there, and propriatory items always get premium $$$$$$

Radisson Hotels have sleep number beds in many of their rooms. We tried them but were not really thrilled and ended up buying an expensive regular mattress. But I am a large guy with alot of steel in my back.
One thing to pay attention to is that the less expensive models and the ones in the hotel use a very loud pump. The salesman said "well once you set it you don't need it anymore" but it is enough to wake up the spouse when you adjust. The higher end models have a near silent pump.

While staying at the Hotel our bed worked fine, but my Mother-in-Laws bed went flat 3 nights in a row and each day they said they had fixed it

All good points to take in. I may consider staying at a Radisson one or two nights some time to check one out.

Good plan, isn't there a Radison on the beach in Aruba or someplace close?
