Well I live in the Palm Harbor area, grew up in the Tampa area (lived in TN too), and like Randy said there are great things and areas and not so great things and areas in any state. I love it here, I ride my bike all year long, drive a convertible and the top is down most of the time, It is hot in the summer, we have this thing called air conditioning now and there are few more nice "swimming/fishing/diving holes" compared to up north, and you'll never have to shovel snow or drive on ice. There are some good schools and bad ones but I think that is the case in most places. Both my kids and I were accepted to all the Universities we applied to with scholarships so the schools can't be all that bad. Most of the new growth and schools are in the northern areas but there are some nice established areas all over. It's not Utopia (Like all states other than FL must be? Thanks BTW.) but I like it and there are some of the best reef stores you will ever see in this area, or you can dive a reef if you like too. Good luck.
