i have a couple of TL subs in the house. i was trying to figure out why one sounds fine and the other two just are not quite there. i started reading some of Martin King's TL papers and found that he has found that stuffing the line does nothing to the speed of sound through the pipe. this makes sense since the one that sounds good has a 12' length with a Fs around 22Hz for the driver. the two that do not sound as good have only an 8" length with the same Fs for the driver.
so what got me thinking is i were to increase the pipe length to 16' for the badish sounding subs, which is what the 1/4 wavelength for the Fs is, this should be all i need to do, correct? another problem could be is that if i were to do this, than the outlet of the pipe will be right at the woofer. will this cause problems, like cancelations?
what kind of speakers have you made?
