I believe that Tom is a Pharmacologist.... (not sure what the difference is...but I'm sure he'll tell us )

Tom is a Pharmacologist. His specialty is knowing the individual drugs themselves and what they will and won't do, including reactions with other drugs. When a doctor or hospital has a patient that is on one or more drugs at the same time, Tom is the type of person they contact if they need to change or add additional drugs to make sure that they don't kill someone with a drug interaction. This is probably a much simplified explanation but I think it gets the point across.
