Any ''audio'' Guru's Here ???
I need some serious help on the subject of home audio set up and setting's...
Well, first things first, MY Equipment:
reciever is: SONY STR-DE845 5.1 500W (100w RMS per channel) Soround
front center channel is: POLK CSI5
front L & R pair is: POLK RTI6
rear L & R pair is: INFINATY EMIT K
The question is this:
My reciever's EQ setting are:
SUB freq. range is; 100hz to 1.0khz
Mid freq. range is; 500hz to 5.0khz
High freq range is; 1.0khz to 10khz
My speakers freq range is:
RTI6 is: Bi amp, Overall 40hz to 27khz, lower 3 db limit 50hz, upper 3 db limit 26khz, efficiency 89db, and crossover freq. 2.8khz, 12 db/octive high and low pass
CSI5 is: bi amp, Overall 45hz to 27khz, lower 3 db limit 55hz, upper 3 db limit 26khz, efficiency 90 db, (could not find any croosover spec's)
EMIT k is: still looking for info on these, as they are OLD...
So what do I set my EQ setting's at, for this to sound great....?
thanks for your input and any and all suggestions welcome....

well, your sub should be 0 Hz (if possible) to around 7 or 800. mid looks good, then high should be 3000 to as high as possible. Just do some tweaking 'til you think it sounds perfect.
I prefer Yamaha for my audio stuff. So someone with a Sony will probably have better advice.

looks like you have decent gear, but a labful of instruments will not make it sound a lot better
When i used to be anal about audio i bought all the calibration records and all that, but honestly my JVC home theater setup is a lot simpler now> I found my optimal sweet spot to sit and tuned the sound so that when i play Blackhawk Down on DVD the F/R levels are OK and I can hear the bullets ricochet off walls around the room, when it sounds like hot brass is fallin all around you its about perfect

well my dvd is pre set, so i turn off the EQ for it alot, but for MUSIC i want to get the most out of the speakers without distortion ect...
I know it veries a little do to room size ect... but was wanting to figure out how i would get the optimum sound with the 'BUILT IN EQ SETTINGS' i am aware that they are within range of my speakers but is there any rule here to follow or recomended setting ect..
i realy dont understand the DB,HZ,KHZ yet but i am studding up on it...
and i have no SUBWOOFER yet but plan to add a VALINDINE soon...as well as a new reciever in the next year or so
i also have a FISHER, STUDIO STANDERS OF EXCELENCE, PRE-EQ (about 20 years old)...that i can hook up but again i have no idea how to adjust the sliders...
thanks for the replies and please keep it comin as i want to learn as much as posible

It is really hard to just generalize how to set up a system. To many variables are involved such as the whole speaker placement, room size, carpeted floors, furniture in the room, ..........
0-20hz inaudible - such a low frequency you can't hear it but you would definately feel it. Need a sub 15" or larger to accomplish in must cases.
20-60hz - deep bass, tympany's etc. most 12"s will get you good response here or a 10" in a good enclosere. I prefer the 10"s due to speed, attack and decay of the driver.
60-200hz - mid bass, kick drums and up in range. 6" or 8" drivers. This is what your system can reproduce right now. You should set your crossover to cut off frequency below 80hz. I say 80hz because x-overs don't make the frequency hit a wall, it is a gradual decline so if you have a 12db x-over you would be 12 decibels quiter one octave down - 40hz. An octave is the doubling or halving of any frequency and every 3db is a 2x difference louder or quieter. So if you are crankin on the system and the track hit a real low note you will not damage your drivers with frequency meant for subwoofers.
200hz-3000hz (1khz) - vocal range, this is where it counts. 6" - 4" drivers. Adjustments in the reange can make your setup sound like you are in a concert hall or if adjusted incorrectly a pepsi can.
3khz-20khz - cymbals, glass shattering, etc. Tweeters or horns.
Hope this helps a little with the x-over setting. If you know some people that work for a car stereo shop you could ask them to RTA your system and get a true idea of whats really happening.
