Thanks Jerel! My spirits are lifted and my dedication renewed!
To fill everyone else in, instead of graduating with my Bachelor's in Marine Biology by taking comprehensive exams, I'm planning on doing it by writing a thesis equivalent to a Master's, in the regular four years it takes to complete the BS. Subsequently, I go straight into working on PhD (by age 21). I have to be picked up by one of the Marine Science program professors at Eckerd first, as they will be a thesis advisor, who will also serve on my defense panel.
BTW, Jerel, you know/heard of Dr. David Scholnick? He takes care of Eckerd's permitting. So far, I think I'd prefer him as an advisor. He's an invert physiologist. Him or Dr. Jeanine Lessmann.
So for my thesis, I am trying to get an internship in the Bahamas with an ongoing coral research program that often picks up Eckerd Students, we have to use existing data collection processes, etc. to collect data. So while in the Bahamas, I need find a side project that interests me and collect the data, then spend the next year or so writing it and rewriting it.
So Jerel, I want to mainly work with scyphozoan and anthozoan bio/phys, but moreso, coral reefs and their trophodynamics and ecology.
Or maybe I want to do pathobiology... those Monogeneans are so interesting
