Air Compressor
I am looking at getting an air compressor. I was looking on the sears website and thought the vertical style might save room in my garage. I don't want to spend a lot of money and the 1 HP 12 gallon looked nice at only $179.00. Im going to be using it for small things such as filling car tires, blowing out the garage floor, cleaning tools, things like that. Any suggestions if I should go bigger or smaller.

If You think You want it for small jobs that will be good, The oil less make more noise and wear out before standard oil crankcase one. But will more then likely last many years for You. if you want to operate air tools go bigger. air tools use alot of air. I have a 7 HP 60 gallon that will handle anything just about. But I use it for air tools.

Did you realy ask a bunch of reefers if you should go bigger???!!!! I would agree with Vince, I like the oil crankcase type.

I have a 8Hp 60 gallon Vertical. The compressor is the heart of the system. So you want a good heart to run everything else! You'll spend more money on all your airtools then the compressor.

oil sump for the compressor is a must if you're going to spend that kind of money, also, you'll invariably buy a ton of air tools, so might as well get a 50 to 60 gal tank to go with it.
use the large diameter hose for long runs, and if you paint, get an air dryer for the service line. I bought a 240 volt one, but thats because I use it a lot when I run it.

and pick up a hog while you are at it, even a 5 gallon one will do, nie to be able to carry some air somewhere else for a quick job instead of rolling out the main compressor.
some of the smallr pancake models come with one or two guns also, if you dont think you need or will use it alot try looking at thoses...they are usalluy a very good deal. the price of one or two guns is unreal..

Thanks for all the help. I actually bought a compressor from someone at work. Her husband was selling his compressor. A cambell and hausfield 3 1/2 HP belt drive 20 gallon. I paid only $50 bucks for it. Its in great shape and has the extra filter to catch the moisture. I couldn't go wrong with that price so I bought it.
