Congratulations, Eryn!!

What happy news!

Books are good (and the internet, too); knowledge is power. The more you know about the process, the more you will be in control of your health and how you want to handle your pregnancy and the birth of your new addition.

Unless you already have a trusted physician, shop for a Dr./ midwife /nurse practioner to find one you are comfortable with. Same goes for the hospital or "birthing clinic." The more comfortable and knowledgeable you, and your husband, are with the entire pregnancy and birth will make all the difference in the world.

Oh, and better to arrive at the hospital early rather than late; if we had left 15 minutes later we would have had our 2nd child in the car in the break-down lane of 1-5.

My wife is a new Mommy, she swears by that book and the follow up book "What to expect the first year".

She is not a reader at all,but she reads those two book religiously now, over and over.....

Expect your husband to get whiney after its born too, unless hes s super-duper guy like me!!

I would avoid anything that is enjoyable (beer, cigs, illicet substances, good cuts of meat) cut off hubby now to get a head start and encapsulate your tank to keep the newborn from eventually dropping in anything that might be laying about.

Oh yeah..your dog and cat if you have them are gonna hate you.

(I have no real advice to add, as the only babies I've delivered belonged to someone else.)

Congrats! You also need to get The Girlfriends Guide to Pregnancy... a little more down to earth perspectives on things. My wife loved the book and was always quoting from it.

phishnoob, why is my husband going to get whiney? I thought that was my job?

luckily I dont have a dog. and I hope that my husband was serious when he said he was going to quit his job and stay home and take care of the baby the first year
