absolutely true story, but you won't believe it!
So we were heading up north friday afternoon and we stopped at a little place to eat, we'd been there before. We order and while we're waiting for our food this big one ton duelly pickup truck parks right in front of the door and parks another guy in... I made a comment to Kevin that "he's not really parking there, is he?". Well this guy comes in and let me tell you... scrawny little guy, with a big cowboy hat on, clunky cowboy boots, leather gloves, and get this, a 6 shooter pistol in a holster on his hip. Um, that's NOT LEGAL in WI!!!
He goes to the counter and orders of all things a whiskey mixed drink... now we're a little on edge, and he keeps walking over and looking out the door. why?
They have little sleeping rooms behind the restaurant, a hotel of sorts, and he was talking to the waitress telling her that he was here earlier in the day and that he wanted a room. She made a call and then told him that it wasn't ready yet. He said to tell the lady that he talked to earlier in the day, and he said, I kid you not, he said: "she'll remember me, tell her I'm the guy with the cowboy hat and the knife." KNIFE?!?!?! There was no knife on this guy when we were there! I think we would have noticed it after seeing that pistol!
We still haven't figured out of this guy had an agenda or if he was just really that clueless. It felt good to get out of there tho!
Honest to God truth, I swear!

weird, sure there isnt a carry permit in WI, in ga, you can carry a gun with a permit, i dont think your can conceal it without a special permit though. and your not supposed to take it into public places like a restaurant either. i dont know. great story though.

no, thanks to our governor we don't have conceal carry, and since he got reelected we'll be lucky if we don't lose our guns altogether!
Even with conceal carry you can't go into restaurants and bars, nowhere that serves alcohol. Oh and we don't drink! lol!

Good story Jess!
I showed my buddy my new gun and found out that having one in a bar is a pretty bad crime so we stashed it in the basement.
Living here in Idaho they are pretty much in gun racks everyplace though and people carry them in Cal Stores to get the right sight mounts. It is really just part of everyday life.
Not too many residential burglaries round these parts.

Carry laws vary from state to state. Here in Oregon we have Concealed Carry by permit, open carry is OK when on the road or in public places(outdoors) unless specifically prohibited. I carry concealed and someone wearing a gun doesnt make me nervous per se, but the actions of this individual as you describe them would prolly have my cocking and locking and prolly having a little chat with the guy.
Most people that arent into firearms are really nervous when people do stupid stuff like that, thats why at least here where anyone not barred from a permit can apply and erecieve one, open public displays are really frowned upon as bad taste

In most jurisdictions ANY carry is forbidden in Banks, airports(federal) state, county offices, and ESPECIALLY places that serve Liquor primarily. Resteraunts that also serve beer and wine may or may not be covered, but if you are packing and have beer or wine with your meal, its a really bad idea

Oh don't get me wrong, we have guns, I have a little Beretta .22 pistol, Kevin and I bought each other pistols for our birthdays two years ago. It did put us on edge tho cuz that's totally not legal! Sure, you can have open carry if you're checking traps, but that's about it. You can't do it in public unless your the law, and he got out of his truck with it strapped to his hip which is also illegal; here your gun must be cased at all times when in a vehicle... gun racks in the back window are just for looks here.
I'm surprised noone called the cops, or maybe they did in the kitchen, I don't know. I was nervous because when I was little, around 10 or so, my grandpa and I had stopped at a local bar during deer hunting season. These two guys walked in with thier rifles which is when we left, and on the news the next day it showed that they had shot the owner. Bad news, so it brought those memories back as well.

I can see where that would be cause for concern Jess, like I said if I were in that situation, I would have been armed but concealed and I would have talked to that dude, wouldnt be the first time i have disarmed an idiot, BUT having said that , its a course of action best left to someone that can carry it off, if you have any doubts leave and call the law
