AARRGGHH Computer*&%#!!
I swear, I cannot leave this family alone with this computer!
Our home page is now set at about :blank I cannot get rid of it. I ran AdAware, SpyBot S&D and Norton. I've changed everyone's home page back to whatever it was they had before...about three times and I now realize that it may *look* like it has reset to the previous but all of the tabs for "home page" no matter what they say, get redirected back to about :blank
Any one have a clue on what I should try now?
******!

This may not help you now but I banned my kids from the computer after my son screwed it up this last time.

I have a feeling it was my husband this time.
But yes, everyone is now banned from the computer until I finish all my current classwork.

Hi Alice,
If you have XP then try using the "System Restore" thing to a time before the home page was wacky. I had a unwanted toolbar that I couldn't get rid of with the programs you mentioned. System Restore worked. If not you might want to try something here:
http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/col...id,1316,00.asp
There's lots of freeware programs out there.

Are you simply saying that when you boot Explorer..the first page it loads is "about blank"?
If so, you can change that easily.. go to Tools: Internet Options. This will pop up a window. The first thing you should see under the General tab is :Home Page: Type in whatever address you want as the homepage.. then at the bottom of that pop up window..click "Apply".
Hope that works for ya.

I have never seen a program as effective as Pest Patrol for getting all of the key loggers, adwares, trojans, denial of service and the other vermin. The customer support is incredible as well.

Jeremy, I tried all that, several times.
I've run everything I know to do. I just cannot figure out for the life of me why I can't get rid of about :blank. It's bogging down the puter and keeps hitting me with key loggers, trackers and other crap.
If I mess around much more I'm going to be getting into areas I shouldn't and may make the problem worse. I may just have to keep running the scans and removing the crap as I can until I can finish my classwork, which is all on the hard drive. If I lose it all again, I'll just give up.
Sigh.

go to www.pestpatrol.com and run the free diagnostic. I bet you will be surprised to find you have hundreds of pests on there. You will have to spend the thirty bucks but it will wipe out everything you said. Those other programs are not nearly as effective.

It is probably set as the home page in your registry. Run regedit and search on that key value "about:blank" to see if it is getting the home page location there.

Of course I have no idea where in the registery it would be located, so you might want to do some searching for this on the internet.

thanks for the pointers, Andy
Maybe I'll have to try that, Perry. I ran a free diagnostic with Spyware Nuker once and it pulled up many nasties the freeware's didn't catch.
