A few days off... need suggestions..
I've got an opportunity to escape for a few days, week of Nov 20. I'm looking to go someplace in FL, Gulf coast -- need warm, need beach.
Need to rob a bank, but that's another story
Anybody got ideas/suggestions? I don't get away very often... want to make the most of this.

Unfortunately at this time of the year you have to go to central or south FL to find warm weather. And it's the "in" season there.
I know a guy that has a house for rent in the keys. I've seen pics and it's real nice.

Yeah, I've seen pix too... too far for me to drive for just a few days. I was sorta kinda thinking Tampa. I was in Orlando a month ago.. was still nice then, but I want sand and surf, even if the water is chilly... just to sit on a BEACH... been so long I forget what a beach looks like.
My friend suggested Ft. Myers but even that looks like a haul. I can get to Orlando or Tampa in about 7 hours... don't want to venture much further than that since I'm travelling solo.

Make the drive, it is only a few more hours farther then Orlando, and it is well worth it.

Yeah Orlando is "too city"... unless you're doing the Disney thing or whatever. Hmmm extra driving, eh... hrmmm Yahoo maps says 12 hours 780 miles... I like to drive but.... whoa... Tampa is less than 500 miles, 7 1/2 hours. Either one is a lotta driving.
I'll have to figure out what I'm doing tomorrow... I belong to some barter exchanges and have barter $$ to spend on accomodations - will check with my broker to see what accomdations are available and where. That will have a big influence on where I stay, since I am a wee bit short of cash money

Doug M has a beautiful beach house on Dauphin Island AL. It may not be all that warm but it's an easy drive and beautiful beaches.

That crossed my mind... but A) It's probably rented. B) I probably can't afford the rent and C) I don't need it for a whole week - just 3 or 4 days.
I'm looking to spend my barter cash... will do some checking tomorrow
An overnight trip from Tampa to the Keys might not be a bad idea though

Jenn,
Wow, beach sounds good but I when I went on my little get-away recently, I opted for maximum relaxation time and minimum traveling stress. Being on vacation is definitely a state of mind, not what state you drive to.
Enjoy yourself, wherever you go; you deserve it!

I just got back from Orlando... granted I stayed in the city, but I found a wonderful little inn and spa that was very reasonable - and right by a lovely park. ($120 for a king with huge bathtub... I stayed for cheaper, though.) The place has a hot tub on a balcony, and the weather was very nice last week. They do offer very reasonable spa services too - you know you need a massage!
Anyway, it was good to indulge for a day.
