7 Lunar Eclipse Pics (Dial Up Warning)

Ok...here's some of the better pics I got of the eclipse the other night...

1. Before the eclipse started.

2. Just starting to shadow.

3. A little more shading.

4. About one third.

5. Half way there.

6. Almost.

7. Total eclipse.

Great pics kw!

Genie and I sat out under the stars and watched the eclipse ourselves. What we saw puzzled me a little, especially after seeing your photos.
For us, the intensely bright sun started getting a light red shadow across it, until all the brightness was gone. Then the light red was slowly replaced by a dark red color. The the light red started back out, then the intensely bright. The moon never disappeared from view. We live in Florida now, but on the same latitude I've always lived and I've never seen it do that. Quite cool, but slightly disappointing that it never really disappeared. Well, the Pleides were pretty to look at that night too!

Right...the moon doesn't totally dissappear because light is bent around the earth and still makes it to the moon. As the light is being refracted around the earth, any light in the blue spectrum is scattered and only light in the red spectrum makes it to the moon..

It's an old Sony Cyber-Shot 2.1MP connected to a 40mm eyepiece on my Orion Starmax 127mm telescope.

That first pic is fantastic.

The last one though, I have taken several pictures just like that, of course it was because I left the lens cap on.

Really great pictures, unfortunatly it was cloudy here in Western Wisconsin, so I did not get to see it.

Yeah...my camera is about 5 years old and I need to replace it. Low light and focus are two things it can't seem to do at the same time. I'll admit, the last one looks much better on my LCD monitor at home that it does at work.

Awesome pics. Did the moon look red at all? We saw it as blood red here on the left coast.

Yeah, unfortunately, my camera doesn't pick up the color very well in low light conditions (or anything else for that matter). Just looking through the eyepiece on the telescope or my binoculars, the moon was a soft amber color, but a dark rust color with the naked eye.

Colonel...no offense taken. It's pretty dark on my moniter at work too and I can barely make out the disk.
