My New Mantis
I just got him this morning, dripped for two hours, and he ate two ghost shrimp.
I bought it as a "Hawaiian Lemon Pineapple" mantis shrimp.
Can anyone ID the species?

Thanks! He's very active.
Apparently he's a spearer. Anyone know if I can feed him like cheap, feeder fish? and how often should I feed him? I have about 8 ghost shrimp left for him. I'm thinking like one a day and I'm going to try and feed him raw shrimp soon.

good manitis shrimp?
This is my 1st post & I had to comment because 1st -- I think the color is gorgeous & 2nd -- I'm happy to see a "good" thread about mantis shrimp because I'm pretty sure I got one (black) as a hitchhiker in my live rock & had read nothing but bad things about them. So mantis shrimp can be okay? b4 you ask: 50 gal, FOLWR planned, 25 days old, 60 lbs live rock, 60 lbs live sand, 0 for all ammonia, NO3,NO2, - never had a huge spike, did have diatome blooms, went through 2 days of hair algae that scared me. Have many "new" things growing, bristle worms, feather duster worms, & things I've yet to identify that I sit & stare at with a magnifying glass.

i dont know alot about them but from what i read they can and will eat most everything in the tank even your fish. if you hear clicking when the lights are off it may be a mantis.

Do a search. If you plan on keeping any small fish or crustaceans you probably should catch him now and put him in his own tank.
I don't think I'd want one running around in a tank where I was planning on putting my hands (although I did play "dodge the lion fish" when I was younger. )

When I put my hand in my tank with my 4.5" Peacock mantis to place in new corals or move things around, I have to keep a very close eye on him. He will come out of his cave to checkout what I'm doing and I have to keep him at bay with my plastic tongs. He definitely likes to beat those tongs up. Better those than my fingers!

Robin-
I would try to catch the mantis and set up a 10 gallon or something for it. They are really cool to watch but need to be kept alone unless you are lucky and get one that only kills certain things instead of everything...
And if you decide you dont want it after you catch it (if you catch it lol) then you can always sell it. More and more people now are looking for them.
Smorgousford-
lol yea. I got a new zoa colony and I had my hand in the tank moving stuff around while he looked at me. But after watching him attack stuff you can tell when they are getting ready to attack. He just looked like he was interested in what I was doing.
