Yea man. That is mine. I posted this same topic on RC and from their responses and the color and noticing that mine is a spearer then it is a P. ciliata.

I really like his color since it stands out from everything else in the tank and he's pretty active, moving about, picking up sand and moving it. and then he just stares at me when I put my hand in the tank and move my frags around.

I'm very happy I bought him.

From what I've heard, they are not very hard to sex (but I havent read up on the particulars yet). And I think you need a very large tank to keep two and then see if they kill each other or decide to be friends.

I don't think I'd want one running around in a tank where I was planning on putting my hands (although I did play "dodge the lion fish" when I was younger. )

I've been researching & so far this is the best "educated" guess I have so far. I haven't heard the clicking sound that is supposed to prevelant. Is there something else that is about this shape & size? I've really only seen it 3 times, it burrows in one of my rocks & covers the hole with debrise. Between what I saw briefly & the behavior, this was the best ID so far. We did add 2 small hermit crabs yesterday & both were just fine this morning.

Also, are there 'nocturnal' snails? I found a very small white (or light) one this morning on my glass. Once I turned the lights on he made his way to the sand & buried in.

Guess I should be posting these questions somewhere else in the forums. Like I said -- I'm a newbie ! Thank for all for the advice & kindness!

Humor me , Red , while I lead the both of us over an iconic threshold here at TRT. The process is referred to as "squirreling". I will be the squirreler and you will be the squirrelee.

*Lights a cigarette*

What size is your mantis? The behavior sounds like one but it could be something else entirely.

If you're sure of which rock he's in it should be an easy matter to remove him from the tank. Get him in the rock and jerk that sucker out !

(Watch the fingers!)

More than likely a nassaris snail! Great for keeping the sandbed clean!
