How bout base rock? That'll work too. And it will eventually become live, if you havee something to seed it.

YES HE WILL BE OK ...anything for him to hide in..pvc pipe, decretive rocks from supercenter in the fish department.it would look cool if the mantis had somehing cool to live in..he might get upset and punch your glass and crack it,lol ..is this mantis a swordsman or boxer?...they can crack your tank you know?..ive never had a problem with mine

if your mantis is up against your glass..DONT!!!!!!!!! tap your finger against the glass..he will try to defend himself and punch the glass and crack it.......they compare the force of its blow to a 22cal gun..if you havent read about them our studied them..do a google search on them and study them ...they have a very cool personality!!!! good luck with him..post some pics when you get them

also dont touch them, if its a swordsman..it can cut right through your finger to the bone

for rock just to add i would go with just some dead LR cheap and if you buy just a small amount of LR will become LR along the line, i would just do this for better filter

Only the largest and strongest of the species of smashers can break aquarium glass. This includes very large peacocks, G. chiragra, and perhaps the largest of G. ternatensis. Smaller smashers can't break glass and spearers can't break glass at all. As your peacock gets large, or if you receive it and it is already very large, I would change to an acrylic tank. You don't need live rock, but if you can put a little $ into some live rock rubble then your peacock will have building materials AND it will seed your rock and turn it to live rock. Good luck!
