Im going to do it......setting up a mantis tank input wanted

I want one. I am going to make the tank....i have enough acrylic laying around to make a 22"x 18"x 15" acrylic tank.

I want a fairly large colorful one. suggestions??

Im planning on throwing this little pc light I have over the tank, a few inches of sand, and some rocks. I will just do a 50% or ??? water change every week using old water change water from one of my other tanks.

Probably throw some zoanthids and rics in there as well. is that ok??

What else should i consider??

ok...well ive done a little more looking around and had some input...

Im going to go with a peacock. generic i know...but they are the most pretty and active it seems. Thats why everyone has them

I AM going to use a skimmer on the tank after all. Not so much for skimming as huge water changes every week are super easy just using the change water from my other tanks......but for aerification. Ill do a closed loop and some rics and zoanthids.

pics to come sometime between the next week and 3 months.

Ok, im going after a mantis tank myself, so let me know any tricks you have come up with.... im just using an eclipse 12 though, nothing fancy this time.

Couple inches of Live sand, some live rock, some bristle worms and some copods ... not sure what else im going to add, but I have heard that I should not have a peacock in this small of a tank. I am now doing research on another shrimp for the tank

I have a Pseudosquilla ciliata(spearer) mantis shrimp . The smashers like a peacock will need a mud substance added to sand to be able to dig a wide enough burrow . Or a pvc pipe as a alternate burrow. Also you will need to feed your smasher live food once a week because they can loose their smashes when molting if they are not used. Mines is very active during the day. You should do some more research. Their are more mantis shrimp that have nice colors beside peacocks and will be less aggressive.
